Air Miles HELP

Postby Magical_Trevor » Feb 5th, '14, 16:03

Hey guys and gals,

Summary - I work a lot abroad throughout the year (25k+ airmiles last year) and have just got back from Australia where I spent new year. I got a flight with Etihad and checked (several times) that I would get air miles. (see first email below)

Dear Mr. Edwards,

We want to address all your concerns. Thank you for responding to our most recent email.

You will earn miles for your flights to Australia and they will go toward your status for the membership year of 2014.

I'm glad I could assist you in this matter.

Regards,

Bill Russell

I got back 10 days ago and hadnt had my account credited, so contacted AA to see what was going on - long and short, I was passed around and after fwding the email (above) got told this:

Dear Mr. Edwards,

Thanks for your response.

I am truly sorry that you were given misinformation regarding elite qualifying miles when flying on Etihad Airways. I am not able to make an exception for you to earn elite qualifying miles on an airline that does not provide these benefits. Only oneworld airlines and Alaska Airlines provides elite qualifying miles when traveling on them.

To help make amends for this misinformation, I have credited your AAdvantage account with a bonus of 1,000 miles. We hope this goodwill gesture restores your confidence in us.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to address your concerns. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call AAdvantage Customer Service directly. To reach us in the United States or Canada, dial
1-800-882-8880 and say 'AAdvantage Account Service' at the Main Menu.
(Outside the U.S. or Canada, please visit www.aa.com/phones to find the telephone number for your local office.)

As always, thank you for your participation in the AAdvantage program!
We appreciate your business.

Regards,

Nikki Brown

In a nutshell, what can I do about this? Do I leave it, do I chase it up and demand more miles, do I kick up more of a fuss with the airline themselves?

Any advice would be greatful, as I really dont have a clue what I should do and what the best outcome will be

Thanks in advance as ever,

Dan

Really depends on you. I'd fight. I'd be a thorn in the their side and only because I have the original letter stating that the air miles would be credited. In the States (and Canada) this would be against the law as it is a bait and switch type deal. You were told one thing and then given another, and you have it in writing. You should get the miles even if they have to pay for them out of pocket. The second letter l smells like one of those standard emails that people get and then just go with the flow and take the 'loss'

It is probably going to be a headache to fight but then I'm not afraid of headaches. And at the end of the day, when it is not resolved in a timely fashion I'd hit social media, and governing body who deals with such things basically make as much noise as possible.

But it is not for everyone. Is it worth it to you? That is the question.
