I saw his video online and I've been trying to learn it. Apparently he's a self-taught magician. Aren't we all?!!

I'm partly just curious if it is his trick, I'm sure he's not the first to do this.

The monte that you are referring to is Garret Thomas's 'Stand Up Monte' and it can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/B2Ct3Dm8Boc I was able to find it at Penguin magic by doing a quick search, but I'm sure that you can find it at a lot more places than that.
