I like the feel the the supersoft, just feels nicer in the hand and thusly more of a pleasure to work with.

The only problem I would flag up with the supersoft are with colour fading. I use Green 2" supersoft and as mentioned earlier in the thread to get them at their best you need to wet them, and the 1st time you do this alot of colour runs out of the ball. Its not a big problem because the colours stay vibrant but they dont "run" evenly for want of a better expression.

The result is that some are slightly lighter than others and personally i can see a difference, i dont think specs would notice this for it to effect performance but its something that irritates me personally

It's a while since I saw the DVD of Eugene Burger's routine, but I think this is his reason for not using super soft sponges.

Like so many things, it comes down not only to personal preference, but also the trick. For a regular sponge routine (two in the hand, one in the pocket), regular density might well be better. In some cases, though, you might want super soft. For example, if you are using some kind of production box, you can have more balls than most with super soft. Ahem.

This could be because they are from different dye batches. If you really don't like this (and I think it might niggle me too), you could get a few packs and after a couple of goes through "the wringer", put the best colour matches together as sets. As bmat says, they aren't exactly expensive.

Goshman sponge balls seem to be the best loved ones, lots of tips and info on the first page of this thread.

I agree with Mandrake, I've got a ton of different balls from various manufacturers and the Goshman ones are easily the nicest to work with.

It might be worth looking at the sponge stars that are available (also Goshman I believe). I now use only these as they are less likely to roll out of the spectator's hand, and can offer some fresh presentational possibilities.
