'Flash' money

Postby MrCat » Sep 13th, '14, 13:38

Hey folks,

I was just wondering, what with living in scotland, if anyone knows where I could get some flash paper cash in scottish note form. What do people do in situations like this, can you print on flash paper with just a regular printer?

Any info most welcome!

Cheers :)

I'd imagine that the ink would bleed if you tried to print on normal flash paper but you did used to be able to get heavier weight flash paper that might be better, I can't remember who used to sell it though.

I have not done it in awhile. But I used to use a copier to make flash paper. There were a few tricks though. First you have to be able to adjust the flow of ink to the page. If you use photo quality it is not going to work. I forget the exact settings but there is a way to use less ink. Then there is the matter of the paper going through the machine. You must firmly attach the flash paper to a regular piece of paper otherwise the flash paper gets stuck in the machine. A piece of tape on the corners will not do it. Usually you have to tape the leading edge and see if that works. It depends on how sensative the copier is. Also as a percaution wait a few moments for the machine to cool between each sheet. I'm not sure a copy machine will get warm enough to ignite flash paper but why take the risk?

I wouldn't even try to print using a laser printer - the fuser on a laser printer gets very hot (to set the toner). I'd expect that flash paper has a lower ignition point than regular paper. An inkjet printer will not get as hot, but it's probably still worth letting it cool before each print.

Would anyone notice an English note? I guess the colours are a bit different, but unless they're looking closely I'd have thought it would be ok.

Depends what you're doing with it I guess, but I can't imagine it would be an issue...

Yea it's not a massive issue, I was just thinking if I was asking for money from someone else they'd likely give me a scottish note. But I'm sure I can settle for english notes. We also have several variations of 10's and 20's here so it's not that practical really!

Thanks for the responses tho :)

I've done a fair bit north of the border using 'special' English notes and it's never raised an eye brow. Although being English perhaps it looks slightly more natural but I wouldn't have thought it'd be a problem particularly.
