So picking up the cube and moving things around for a moment or two and it is solved really isn't magical for most people. Amazing yes, magic no.
Nowstart with it all messed up and toss it in the air and it solves itself, now that is magic and it has already been done.
have you watched Derren brown infamous. I would class him as a mentalist and he does a similar feat which by your definition is not magic. also the trick where you bend a coin is not technically magic as a coin can be bent with bare hands.bmat wrote:I hate to sound negative but I simply don't see how this relates to mentalism, (which is just magic presented differently). But I did watch it again because I am interested and I love the fact that you really try to be original and forward the craft. So can you tell me how it relates to mentalism. All I saw was you solving the rubic's cube.
Lady of Mystery wrote:I liked it. I'd put it in the same category as speed maths or memory effects but they're all mental feats (does that make them mentalism, I'll leave that for your to decide but Corinda certainly thought so) but they can work well as part of a mentalist's routine.

Well if this can be done with any mixed cube then I can only conclude speed cubing, bu it doesn't look like that either.
Cheers

DEFINITIONS OF: magic trick. 1 n an illusory feat; considered magical by naïve observers. Synonyms: conjuration, conjuring trick, deception, illusion, legerdemain, magic, thaumaturgy, trick Types: card trick. a trick performed with playing cards.
solving a rubiks cube so fast or giving that illusion can be developed into a mentalist style act which you prove superior mental capacity for example mathematical feats like human calculator, book test claiming to have memorised the contents, Derren's button counting act.

Well I'm backing out of this because obviously I am missing something. All I know is I and most of my friends who also grew up during the Rubic cube phenonmenon can solve a rubic's cube in seconds from any position.
As per bending a coin. I don't know what kind of coins you have but I've yet to meet anyone who can bend American coins with their hands. Plus I can bend the coin with my mind, holding the coin at my fingertips and watch it visibly bend.
I will go out on my regular limb then and say it is all about presentation.
I'm also confused about the maths thing. I've never seen that as mentalism or magic. I see that as a gift, some people are just very good at math like those 6yr olds who do amazing computations in their heads. Or the spelling bee champions. Amazing? of course. Does it fall into the realm of magic or mentalism? I don't think so. But it is always possible I'm just missing something.
And finally I am well aware of the dictionary definition of magic.
