The clips themselves were good, some I'd not seen before. Pity that Shahid and Lisa's box act was so truncated, it works better with the build-up of each spike being pushed in. Seven shows to go.......
To me the main problem was the moronic commentary and unless you are magic minded like us then that is what it will all be about. And the commentary in the main ridiculed magic and magicians, not what we need. I thought it was a bad cross between You've Been Framed and Come Dine With Me. It was for me half an hour of my life I will never get back!
Check the credits - Mel was the Narrator but there were four script writers listed. That's four (count 'em, four) people commissioned specially to write the annoying drivel. Perhaps we should make approaches to Objective and point out how badly the narration has backfired - assuming they don't already know.
I wonder how Katherine Mills would feel if her Mind Games series had used the same silly narration - after all, it was also made by Objective.......
Second programme maintained the same standard but I'm managing to filter out the comments without resorting to the volume control. Again, some good clips to see and enjoy.
The title of the show, Now You See It, seems most ironic given that the programme has been elbowed several times in favour of live sport of one kind or another. According to the BBC website ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04ypsw0 ) there are, and I quote, "no upcoming broadcasts of this programme" so I guess there are a lot of other programmes with greater priority on the horizon. Certainly a case of Now You See it, Now You Don’t!
There are supposed to be 8 programmes in the series and we've only seen 5 so I assume the Beeb will just slot the remaining three in when there's no footie or rugby to televise..... or when ITV screen magic shows!
Rather cheekily the Beeb slipped in programme 6 last Saturday! I was away and missed the broadcast but it's on Iplayer, click the link in the post above and view it. There are some good clips and I'm becoming very skilled in blanking out the moronic 'commentary'.....
Now You See It returns to our screens on Saturday 12th September (at 6.30pm). "Fast-paced entertainment series voiced by Mel Giedroyc, featuring some of the world's best illusions, alongside a few moments the magicians might wish had never been caught on camera. There's footage of bewildering stunts, cheeky camera tricks, bizarre performances and talented pets mixed in with the magic. Someone floats in mid-air between two four-storey buildings, beer is poured from a tablet computer, a man jumps off a moving speedboat to catch a Frisbee, and Mel finds out how a Star Trek transporter illusion is actually done."
Now You See It. The last in the current series of this fast-paced and successful comedy/trick/magic clip show, voiced by the somewhat miscast Mel Giedroyc, on Saturday 21st November features some of the world's best illusions, alongside a few moments the magicians might wish had never been caught on camera. There's footage of bewildering stunts, cheeky camera tricks, bizarre performances and talented pets mixed in with the magic. Dynamo takes his nan on a magical shopping trip, a hedgehog performs extraordinary feats with a hat, a young Jedi makes a mess in a toyshop with his lightsaber, and in Japan, a magician picks up his cooked food and brings it back to life in front of a restaurant full of disbelieving diners
Just my four penn'orth but I wouldn't call it fast paced or successful by any means - 8 shows with the final three spread over 8 months sounds more like a failure to me!!!
Well, well well! Series 2, Episode 1 is on BBC 1 Saturday Jan 9th at 5.20pm (near enough twelve months since they screened Series 1 Episode 1 and this time the show features Dynamo, Troy, Ben Hanlin and Kimberley Wyatt. The bad news is that the series is, again, "voiced" by Mel Giedroyc. Time to give the Mute button a service.......
You won't have heard her at the end saying, "Are you a magician? Do you have footage of the magic going wrong? Why not send it in to us to air on the show?".
