Levitating a conductors baton

Postby Mujician » Feb 8th, '15, 11:25

So although I've been a member of the forum for quite some time, I am still a bit of a noob!, I keep dabbling in magic then for some reason or other it tends to fall by the wayside. This time I have given myself a challenge and I want to rise to it! Not letting anything fall by the wayside this time. Anyway - I have no idea about levitating things apart from the fact it involves IT of some sort. To buy a suitable IT, what should I be looking for and in what area in a magic shop? Finally, do you think that floating a conductors baton would be possible? Its not heavy, but the fact that it is long and needs to remain horizontal I would have though would be a problem. Many thanks, Ben

It's not exactly levitation, but have a look at Alan Alan's work on the "Dual Control" gimmick (Tarbell 7 or Lewis Ganson's Art of Close-Up vol.1).

Just to try and preserve a bit of mystery, the stuff you mention is referred to here as IT and I've amended your post accordingly - but you know what's involved

Things like Spider Pen or other IT reels may be of help and a bit of Googling will show you a selection. You could also check out the advertisers on TM, they will all know what you need. A Conductor's baton is relatively light so levitation should be easy enough - best of luck!!!

I'm thinking you may want to look into other methods. Yes of course it is possible to levitate the conductors baton and the problem is the length. IT may work but one would have to know the setting. Are you thinking close up? On a stage? there are many variables.
