David Williamson's Trick Ink

Postby KingJeux. » Dec 28th, '07, 19:04

David Williamson's Magic Farm I believe has a 'trick' where the signature is ripped right off the card. Does anyone know what this ink was called and where it can be purchased in Canada/US?

Here was the effect just to make sure we are talking about the same thing. Card is signed, then folded, then torn into four parts. Card is then restored but still has the original folds. He places the card between his palms, steam is seen to come from between his hands, upon seperating his palms the creases are now gone but the signature is still there. He then peels the signature (visibly) from the card. Alas the card is in pristine condition.

Again if that is the effect then the ink is not fake. Sorry I will not divulge the secret and I don't know if it is in print anywhere. You can try Williamsons Wonders but I doubt its there.

Umm no. I am familiar with the trick you are talking about (less the steam?)
but the question I am asking is the ink he describes in Magic Farm. I can't recall the name but it's a certain ink that can be removed from paper.

I know what you mean, isnt it from his 52 cards to pocket routine from ?Dave 2`. The ink that you can just write with, then literally just peel off. I'd not seen it before but i imagine arts and crafts places would stock it. I'll keep an eye out for you.

Yeah that is it, Dave2. I've looked online but haven't found it yet.

The reason I am asking is because it seems to be a fantastic way to have someone sign to cards, but think to themselves they only signed one. This has some real sneaky opportunities once set up, so I am very eager to get a hold of this ink.

The stuff is called Letraline, made by the letraset company.

Since the dawn of computer based design, Letraset and its ilk are harder and harder to find; the last time I saw Letraline (when I was looking for it) was in the early nineties. Even then it was scarce.

If you do find some, get lots, because it probably won't be there much longer.

Take care, Ian

I'd bet that thinly-cut (1/8" thick or so) electrical tape could work...

Still available from Letraset:

Thanks for letting us know what it was actually called! In my brief research, I found a link to another magic forum, where someone said the stuff doesn't come off playing cards, so maybe you need a specific type of card, or to do a little prep-work.

Letraline is still available from Letraset as Ian said and you can write with it like a pen,but i should warn you the dispencer looks nothing like a pen . It's flat and round like a CD,not the most convincing thing to sign a card with !

You don't sign the card with the letraline! It's prepared ahead of time and switched in. Check Williamson's Wonders for details.

If you track it down, let us know, I've been looking for this stuff too! At a push, very thin strips of electrical tape probably would do.

I expect it does come off playing cards, because that's what Dave and many other people use/have used, and never mentioned this problem...

In case anyone is still interested in this I've sourced a supply of a replacement for the Letraline tape since it's now discontinued.

One of these days I'll get around to doing a video to show what it looks like.
