Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I'm not a huge fan of these sorts of effects but I have used Kochov's Plunge of Death a few times and it's probably about as safe as I can imagine that you can get. To be honest, most of the time when things go wrong it's because the magician's got over confident or taken a silly risk. Kochov's routine looks really nice (although I'd personally never let a spec smash a cup) and has always gotten brilliant reactions everytime that I've performed it.
