DVS Solution Replacement

Postby Elatan » Mar 1st, '13, 20:22

HELP....I lost the "Gimmick" in my travels this past week and cannot find out if replacements are sold. I have contacted Tannens in NYC and they said I need to buy the whole effect again...@ $25 + tax that is ridiculous.

Can anyone help identify where I can buy a replacement gimmick only, or suggest a replacement "gimmick" alternative (if you know the effect you will understand)......I love, love, love the Kopycat effect on the DVD and have been frying everyone with it for past week....now Im up the creek ..

Thanks

I did a review on this which flew under the radar. DVS is great and the kopykat is the standout routine. I've adapted it to a new effect. I'm going to upload a vid of the trick when I get chance. I personally think its better, and easier than kopykat.

I can't discuss the gimmick in open forum so I'll PM you!!

K ;)

Unfortunately, that's sometimes the way it goes; many manufacturers are wary about providing gimmicks without punters paying for the full package, especially with piracy of magic DVDs being as rife as it is.

If the effect is really worth that much to you, buying it again (and taking especial care of the gimmick this time  ) should be a small price to pay...

To be fair, the actual gimmick that comes with it is pennies. You're really paying for the secret and the routines rather than the gimmick. If he genuinely has the DVD and can prove purchase they should be offering refills. Although you can make the gimmick yourself!

Thank you Kevmundo for your suggestions....IT WORKED PERFECTLY!!!!!

I find it interesting how sensitive everyone is to exposing product/gimmick details....the real genius is in the routines or use of the device, that is the real intellectual property, and in my opinion what you are truly purchasing. In any case, replacement of the gimmick only cost me 28cents! I already have the routines, and the DVD in my opinion is well worth the $25. If the manufacturer would have provided options for purchasing replacement solution, I would have gone that route, but they didnt. Maybe they will in the future, and I highly suggest they consider it because I cant be the only person in the magic community who is going to misplace or lose this.

Thank you again Kevmundo....

I find it

My pleasure!!

Seek solace in the fact that DVS has been well advertised but seems to have had ZERO impact on the message boards. I certainly can't find anyone in the UK who is discusing it! I've posted a review request AND a review without a single comment. On reflection it suits me very well since it means that not many (new) magi will be familiar with the principle. I have an effect that I've invented out of DVS and everyone I've shown it to has been completely flummoxed.

With respect to revealing, I think TM is unique insofar as people will become very annoyed if posters start fishing - whereas at the cafe, fishing seems par for the course.

But back to reality - DVS is a cracking effect - but they should be offering refills!!!

I'm not certain, but based on the description alone it sounds identical to DVS!

Yeah, I'm looking at it from the other side. IE: I have Control Freak but not DVS and am thinking it's the same thing

I do not have Control Freak, but from description looks to be the same, and about $20 less.....I will probably order this to get his routines. I think its important everyone follow the rules of the TM Forum....if you dont want posters to reveal, well...there you have it. I have been performing for over 40 years, and belong to several local magic circles. Everyone shares methods, tricks, etc...we feed off eachother. After a new trick is performed, we all try to duplicate using our own methods, then the secret/method is revealed. No big deal, we are all faithful to our code. I think in a public forum like this, if you ask for a SAM or IBM or other affiliation for membership, you dont have to worry so much about revealing a trick ....I loved how you handled it using PM......as another alternative.

This is a really great forum and I enjoy reading everyones posts.....

Thanks again

Cheers

I'm in Canada. Have contacted the wholesale distributor of DVS over here and they too say the only way to get more of the gimmick is to buy it with the dvd. I've just joined talkmagic and am not sure how to work all the bells and whistles. I'd really appreciate learning what others have found that works as a replacement gimmick for DVS. Many thanks in advance and best wishes from across the big pond.

Hi

Could someone PM me the alternative as well I lost my gimmick too and though I was willing to pay for the whole thing again, I have found it impossible to get a second copy.
