Magic cartoon deck Bicycle cards

Postby Paultempleents » Jun 20th, '15, 10:43

This is my first review here so be kind

This is a different artwork version of the original Dan Harlan. This version has been made in bicycle cards by Magicmakers. Mine arrived yesterday from Magic Nevin.

I know that the original has been reviewed before but I liked the artwork of this version as it is a nice illustration rather than the stick man of the original.

The Effect ( from Magic Nevin site)

Spectator freely selects a card. The cards are then riffled. The Magician comes to life as he takes off his hat, places it on the table, performs some magic with his wand, and pulls out one card... The Chosen Card! A bonus ending is included... the Magician puts the card back in his hat and...HE VANISHES! Comes with step-by-step directions and tips and a link to a free demo video.

Cost. £9.99

Difficulty I would put this at a 3. There are a couple of moves to manipulate, turn the cards.

(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

My thoughts .....

Card quality and illustration is excellent. The effect is pretty much the standard one so nothing to add here really. I have to say I was very disappointed in the accompanying instructions. The "beginners handling "described in the folded card instructions that came with the deck neither read well or was detailed enough to actually perform the trick. The instructions suggested that you watched the teaching video link on the magic maker website. The problem with this is that as an iPad user the link is not supported. As a result of this I had to dig out an old laptop in order to be able to gain access to the instructional video to enable me to learn the trick. Not something I was expecting to have to do in this day and age, and had I not had a laptop what then…

Overall - a good novelty effect, nice quality, reasonable price, poor instructions lacking detail.

Looking at the pictures of the deck I can see that it is of the variety where the animation is in white.
That actually really annoys me! The beauty of Cardtoon 1 is that it could look like you had taken the time to hand draw the 52 images. Whereas the ones with white animations look like a specially printed deck.

Maybe thats just me...
