Trade Show Magic

This is an example of what I consider a superb trade show magician. In fact I would even go so far as to say he is the best I have seen. He has the Mark Lewis seal of approval anyway. His name is Eddie Tullock

The svengali deck? I am getting a psychic vibe that you haven't looked at that video. It is not a video of Mark Lewis. It is a video of Eddie Tullock!

Still, if you really want to see me at work in a trade show here you are! No Svengali Deck! Dotty Spots, sponge balls and some card trick or other:

Trade Show magic should be based heavily on message. The real skill is pulling and holding the crowed.

The above video by Lee shows the Joel Bauer approach taught to the gentleman in question. There can be problems with that approach. You don't necessarily want 100 people watching. It blocks the aisles and neighbouring exhibitors complain like hell. I will explain later. I have to leave. In the meantime look at the Eddie Tullock video. He really was the best in the business. The crowd is big enough for the purposes required. In my own video I only have a very tiny crowd but that is only the start of the show. It grows as I continue. I normally have around 30 people watching and that is sufficient for my needs. I bring in a LOT of company messaging but I save it until the crowd grows. It is pointless to do it with a small crowd. I wait until there are enough people to appreciate it. As for pulling and holding crowds I have been doing it for nigh on 50 years.

I must say that I am quite surprised that nobody has commented on what a superb performer Eddie Tullock is. I bet nobody even looked at the video. They should. You will even see some footage of Eddie Fechter at the end of the video too.

Indeed. Here are the other two. I suspect here that he is doing an office demonstration to convince them to hire him. I do a lot of these. Tullock is the one I try to model and follow. About 50 years ago I heard he was working at a trade show in Earls Court, London. I meant to go down and see him work but never did. I have always regretted that. I have seen many other performers work at trade shows but I consider Tullock to be the best trade show magician I have ever come across. He growls at and semi insults his female assistants but somehow gets away with it! I think these two videos give valuable tips on how to sell yourself in an office demonstration. You gather the staff around and tie in lots of selling points both about the company product and the idea of hiring a magician for the show.

It does look that way. I also do a lot of these. Its always the hardest part convincing the client that it is not really about the magic. So these meetings can be important.

I was trained and still am by some of the best trade show performers today and I work alongside Trevor Liley and his team at - http://tradeshowmagicgroup.com/

Indeed. I know those people. It is interesting that so many of them are Americans. I have noticed that US trade show workers only do perhaps two shows an hour. I prefer to work continuously without stopping. Marc Paul who is on that team has a good DVD out on this work. I note on the DVD he states that he prefers the non stop approach too. I expect this comes from his svengali pitch work. You cannot stop in that game otherwise you lose money. It has some similarities with being a trade show magician but it is not quite the same.

I met him when he worked for Marvin's magic. Very personable. I trained some of Marvin's workers at one point and that is where I met Marc Paul.

I would imagine there would be a fair bit of red tape with work permits in bringing US trade show magicians over to Britain. There certainly is the other way round.

I think I remember Trevor Lilly although I may be wrong. I have a vague recollection of Al Goshman being furious with him years ago for copying his act even though Al published it freely for anyone to use! Of course I may be confusing Trevor with someone else but it does seem to ring a bell.
