First time purchasing IET

Postby magicbob123 » Aug 5th, '15, 22:09

Hi guys. Ive decided I'd like to invest in some IET and I was just wondering which you guys would consider A. The most "economical" and B. The most useful (in terms of any supporting literature and such that may be packaged with the product). I have noticed a few different products that come with DVDs explaining the manufacture of your own "loops" and have seen a certain knot be mentioned on here in regards to the subject.

I use the Yigal Mesika thread which I have always found very good. As for making your own loops, the easiest way that I've ever found was to use the stealth system but I don't think you'll be able to find that anymore. Alakazam also used to sell a tool that was very similar, again though I'm not sure if you can still get it or not.

When I have used IET loops I just got the pre packaged due to very rare use and the effect I used them for is pretty low on breakages. But I have heard good things about the trinity system for tying them.

Many moons ago Seige, one of our old time Mods, developed a DIY jig to make it easier to produce loops. Not sure if I still have a copy but will see if I can find it.

I have the Trinity system to make loops. I'm not sure how I lived all those years without it. At first I was very unhappy with the price, then I got the item and was still unhappy with the price. Then watched the DVD and was still unhappy with the price. Then I tried my first loop, being dyslexic it was a little confusing so I was still unhappy with the price. 30 minutes later, watching a movie while and making Loops about a dozen at that time I realized I would gladly pay double the price. By the end of the hour I was making loops perfect size for what I needed. Now I can make a loop in about a minute.

If you use IT, which I love but find them an incredible pain in the bottom, more important if you use loops on a frequent and consistent basis I cannot recommend the Trinity system enough. If you are not really performing, and don't use them often then your best bet is to just purchase pre made loops.

I think that was the STEALTH system.

Spot on Barry, thank you! STELTH as in Simply Tying ELastic THread loops system, vintage 2003 - doesn't time fly when you're having fun?! I also recall another old time Mod, Tom Lauten, made the jigs using a liquid plastic casting process - I saw a demo of it at his workshop when he was based on the Oxford area.

Several years ago I asked Seige/Chris if we could pass the deign on to those who were interested and he said it was a freebie at the time so we're OK to do that. However it's in PDF format which won't attach to posts here on TM but if anyone wants a copy, please PM me your email address and I'll send it on.
