With magic I find I am always a student

Postby Philpot » Aug 19th, '15, 17:53

I don't know about how other people feel, but with me, I find that no matter how much I know, how skillful I am, there is always something which I have no real working knowledge of. An example is I have only now started to explore Cups & Balls, yes the oldest magical effect and only now. There really are so many different things and I think most of us tend to look to things we find we can do better or which have more interest for us, often in the process ignoring or at least overlooking things, often classic things, in favour of what we know. The old Three Shell and Pea, is another one, so old, but one more classic which I am only now getting round to. This is why I love the old books like Tarbell, yes much is outdated, such as the patter, but the ideas contained and the variations which can be adapted are nothing short of amazing. I reading a magic magazine from 1952 the other day and found a great idea, old? Well it was new to me :)

Cheers, Phil

I feel the exact same way and I have been at this a very long time. As per Tarbel being old? Sure the patter may be out dated, but if you look hard enough, read between some lines, Combine a tidbit from this and that. And I'm willing to bet that everything that exists in magic? the secrets can be found in that set of books with the exclusion of digital iphone type stuff.
