I think we're all on the same mailing list .... I've been pondering over this one too :P

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I must be getting too cynical in my old age but I don't even get excited about these things any more. I just seem to see them and then think, meh, I've already got a perfectly good, gimmick free way of doing that.

I have the orignal, and this is going to be the same principal but with nicer packaging and a couple of routine ideas.

It's ok. I used to use it a lot. To be honest though, it's just a clever way of getting a peek. I think you're better off with a simple peek wallet, especially as you can still use it even if you don't have the required special stuff on you. I've always got a small peek wallet/business card holder/oyster card holder on me, nothing else needed... apart from a pen. (Any pen... another advantage for an ordinary peek wallet!)

For me, it's best use was fooling magicians who didn't know the principal!

According to the hype:

You never have to "peek" the card.

.... which is kinda confusing or misleading ??

I have absolutely no idea how this is done and statements like this don't help:

ENOUGH SECRET STUFF FOR 100 PERFORMANCES

I haven't bought anything for quite a while and I'm VERY tempted with this .... but I don't want it to end up as one of them disappointing purchases, which isn't all it's made out to be .... hmm .... decisions .....

Well... it's hard to say without tipping the method.

But somethig does need to be written down. You don't touch the card they've written on...

I guess the point I was making is that you can do the same routines, more or less, with any peek device or imp pad.

It is a clever principal though. But it does now sit in the back of the magic box...

I've seen all the videos on this and it always looks like there's too much going on, whereas a with a normal peek it looks like there's nothing going on at all.

The only thing I have always felt awkward about with a peek wallet is why would you get the spectator to put the item back in to your wallet if the wallet wasn't suspicious?

Because it held your business cards - which you conveniently had on you, in your case. And putting it back in the case, putting it in your top pocket and taking the pen back made everything nice and tidy so you could get back on with the routine.

What I'm saying is - the event is a non-event, and if you act like it's 'nothing' then no one will remember it. Of course, you'll need some time before a reveal and throw in some hot-reading for good measure.

It's really just the same as doing a magic trick. You don't do the magic when you palm something - you do it when you snap your fingers and say abracdabra. That's when the magic happens and you have control of the situation.

It's the exact same thing with mentalism.

Paul Nardini's The Ghost uses a similar principle. It's very clever, however without giving too much away, two items used are consumable and will need to be replaced regularly. This is great for the odd one off performance, or showing down your local magic club, but I'm not convinced it is practical for working repeatedly at a gig.
