Sorry for the delay responding.
I'd been working on this for a while, then after posting I got distracted into another area of my life.
Hopefully getting back into this now.
Mark, thanks for your responses. I've never been a huge fan of that routine. I'm sure that it could be fun and playful in the right hands, but I'm not a fan of the "I can do it but you can't style routines", I don't think I can pull them off. Perhaps it could be varied to allow the spectator to succeed every time and I fail?
I'm not sure what you mean by your second post. It is a shame not to have more suggestions, but I've got something to be going with.
SpareJoker - thanks for your suggestions. Doesn't The Colour of Money use 10 red and 10 black cards? I don't have my copy of Scams with me to check... but I'm pretty sure. Although perhaps I could reduce some of the phases and try it with just 5 of each colour.
Mexican Poker was my first introduction to the 10 card deal. I've since tried to read as much as possible on the plot (including the enormous Bob Farmer 10 Card Deal Dossier) and I've come up with my own routine, just 3 phases long and the first 2 are taken directly from Mexican Poker.
I agree that the idea of special cards could be a problem. I hope to get around that by allowing them to handle the cards as much as possible. With them shuffling and dealing during the 10 card deal it should hopefully eliminate the thought of marked cards because they wouldn't help me anyway - when I'm performing for card players at least.
I wanted to carry this set to perform the 10 card deal, but I wanted to be able to use it with people who don't play cards as well... Hence the request for other routine suggestions.
As it happens, I've not yet had a chance to perform the 10 card deal with these cards (where have all my card playing friends gone?), but have just been using it for a few non gambling effects.
I've been regularly using them to perform an oil and water followed by Aces Up (by Stephen Hobbs) and ending with Dr Daley's Last Trick. This little routine has been going down really well, and the old cards are building up a lot of interest.
I've been keeping the cards in an old cigarette tin with an antique poker chip and an old £1 note. I'd quite like to come up with some ideas on how to use the poker chip and £1 note, as currently they are there just to add to the story of the cards.
Cheers Everyone!
Sam
