The gutter press

Just read this:

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/news/pau ... id=SK2MDHP" target="_blank

I must confess the story is tawdry, but something in me wants to shout out that Paul Daniels was worth so much more than his 'net worth.' I was recently watching his card to pocket routine and getting presentation ideas from his Extra Sensory Deception set he did in the 80's. I imagined he must have been worth millions...... but even though I was wrong, he leaves behind a legacy worth so much more. I hope you agree.

Paul's own words, ' those nasty people called journalists' sum up matters very well indeed.

Yes, he was worth far more than numbers on a balance sheet or tax return and I reckon it's up to all Magicians to make sure newcomers realise and appreciate that.

Couldn't agree more. I really do recommend anyone with an interest in magic to trawl through Youtube for anything by Paul Daniels. His presentation can take a minor mystery into a hard hitting spectacular. A real under-appreciated master of the art. Sadly missed.

I read that Tommy Cooper left a million pounds. Mind you, I have heard all sorts of legendary tales about how tight fisted he was with his money.

The story goes that he used to view all of Ken Brooke's new stock but didn't want to pay for any of it. The other version is that he had a standing order for two of everything which arrived at Ken's shop so I assume he did pay for them. Tommy also bought jokes from gag writers in the US who charged arms and legs for their stuff and I guess they wouldn't have supplied unless payment was made. Will we ever know the real truth? :?

I suspect Tommy stole more gags than he purchased! Val Andrews told me some tales about Tommy's frugality. I believe them to be true.
Still, despite all this I believe Tommy to be the greatest comedy magician of all time.
