Well, I've just watched this programme, some of it through squinty eyes trying to block out the gory stuff (Dutch guy genuinely having swords thrust through his body, Smash 'n Stab things going badly wrong!!), and it was well worth watching.
OK, there were commercial breaks seemingly every 5 minutes or so and the true length of the programme was nearer to 2 hours but there are a lot of valuable lessons to be learned. Mostly I thought the stunts which went wrong were mainly due to lack of rehearsal, research and thinking. Stuff in the dark or at night should have back up bright lights; fire stunts should have buckets of water, fire extinguishers, fire blankets etc. close at hand. Agreed many of the failed effects shown were from many moons ago when thoughts of Health and Safety were still in infancy and these days we’d automatically make sure safety measures were in place – wouldn’t we?
Anyway, I’m saving this programme to watch a few more times, not that I ever intend to do risky stuff but I do have a nice Smash ‘n Stab routine which I’m planning to do soon so perhaps I’ll just run through it a few more times - just to be on the safe side….
