DVD Cleaning

Postby Magic1Jim » Nov 7th, '16, 16:35

After a recent rummage through my magic cabinet i have come across Derren Browns 'Devil Picturebook'

I noticed the dvd cover was all screwed up so it must have been wedged somewhere, When i checked the dvd's to my horror they are scuffed

Does anyone know what the best way to clean them would be? I could provide pictures to show the extent of the damage if needed.

I do not want to test them yet in case i cause more damage

I remember polishing up CDs with Turtle Wax years ago, I wouldn't like to say if that'd work with DVDs though.

Probably of no help whatsoever but I seem to recall Ronco or KTel used to sell CD cleaning kits which included a sort of turntable device and fluid which you used to 'resurface' the discs. If only they were still around!

Edit:

Very similar item available at Maplin, see http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/cddvd-cleaning-kit-cn41u

Have you tried watching it to see if it is actually damaged?

I haven't had time to check it yet, i just assumed since there were marks it would not play. I will give it a whirl when i get home. If it doesn't i will try one of the products listed

non-stop cd copier?

Aren't you supposed to be able to spread jam on your cds?

Not all of the dvd is used and they can take a pretty good beating and still work. And yet a piece of dust in the exact wrong spot and its toast.
