BGT

Is it me or are there some just superb acts on BGT these days? I confess I don't usually watch the show but certainly the likes of Richard Jones last year, and now Neils Harder, DNA, Issy Simpson, and Josephine Lee are certainly showing that magic is not only alive but kicking in all the right places!

Agree Paul. This series has been rather good so far. Thought the young lady the other week was excellent.. So wouldn't mind one of those boxes. 8)

YouTube has all the magic acts mentioned so far.

Also on TV recently were Penn and Teller on The One Show and Richard Jones on ITV's Weekend last Sunday morning.

And now Matt Edwards... see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLaCHhkLTGY proving once and for all that magic doesn't have to be complicated!!!

Japanese magician TanBA certainly stirred things up, along with the audience and judges I was cringing as he ate those razor blades! The balloon swallow seemed to be quite ordinary, most of us know ways to do this even if we don't actually perform it. However when the balloon came back at the end I was as gobsmacked as everyone else. Many magicians swallow balloons but this is the first time I've seen one come back especially after a lot of other throat activity!

Small point, the show is called 'Britain's Got Talent' so why were there so many (excellent) non-British acts? Perhaps it should just be called 'Got Talent'? :D

Strange coincidence - I just found out that one of the guys in the first act last Saturday, the Coventry Cheerleaders group, is currently replastering my son's house!

Talking of coincidences, when Matt Edwards was on, my missus pointed out that it was the same guy we met in Salou in 2007, 10 years ago. Sure enough, I dug out my holiday photos and found a piccie of me and Mad Matt Edwards, as he was known back then :)

Neil Henry's act on Saturday was good although the idea of swallowing cold Alphabeti Spaghetti might be less than attractive for some. Strangely his name seems to have disappeared from all the results sites....

Good to see DNA getting through tonight, I reckon they must have made a good impression  !

Neils Harder's act wasn't very good at all, just a mis-match of random stuff linked together by his crazy antics. The lack of audience reaction said it all for me.

Dunno about you folks but I thought the magic on offer in the final was a little less impressive than it could have been.

OK, DNA dropped a clanger in their routine and I felt very sorry for them but they recovered well enough. Sadly the whole thing was too complicated for me to feel comfortable with it and I think the audience lost interest quickly.

Matt Edwards focused on his zany character for most of his act, the 'amazing box' section was good except he was facing away from the audience and camera for a lot of the time, thus treating us all to an extended view of his butt, and the way the paper burned away was lost to a certain extent.

I thought Issy's act went better than the semifinal offering and, although a very simple trick to perform, she did it well.

It was still good to see so much magic on prime time TV and I wonder what the future holds for these three magicians?

The downside, of course, is that YT is now awash with 'explanations' of how these things were done and I'm sure many folks would have reverse engineered the maths in DNA's act to get Amanda's phone's four digit pin number. I have news, it ain't gonna happen!
