I've got volumes 1 and 4 winging their way to me, got a good deal on the Tarbel Course from Mr Bennet in Birmingham (thank you Mr Tipton for the heads up there) anyway, I've been looking around for Volume 2 to try and buy that, 3 seems to available is a number of places.

Anyone got any ideas? These should arrive on Monday or Tuesday and I paid £90 for the pair. Which with £120 for the complete Tarbell Course is a whole lot of magic at a very bargain price.

These will become harder and harder to get a hold of over time as they are no longer published

Apocalypse will be reprinted after this run has sold out. That's what I have been told by quite a reliable source. Number 2 is hard to get hold of at the moment.
I didn't realise Tarbell was being discontinued too!

You have a real treasure trove of magic coming to you there. You'll never be short of finding new effects and ideas.

I'll have to keep looking high and low for Volume 2

Apprently when each run is depleted it's reprinted as it's not as much of a mass seller as a mainstream book. I know Magicbox had all four at one time but I think two is out of stock now.
A very reputable dealer is going to call me when they're reprinted so I'll post it onto this thread as soon as I know.

Together at last!

But anyway, there must be a terrifying amount of stuff in here because there's an almost wearying inevitability when watching/reading some effect elsewhere and coming across the line in the explanation, "...originally published in Harry Lorayne's Apocalypse..."

There's a huge amount of stuff in there and it's well written and illustrated. It'll be nigh on impossible to learn all of it. (Unless you have the time)
There's some wonderful ideas in there such as Frozen Deckery where a selected card ends up in a block of ice!

The number 2 volume is out of print. To get your hands on a volume #2 is going to cost you. This is the first that I've heard of a second printing, though.

Apocalypse was one of the last, if not THE last, magazine of its kind. Today's market doesn't allow for this kind of magazine to exist anymore, the trend being to take a single trick (that should go into a compendium, magazine-style format) and turn it into a $40.00 DVD.

I further think that the newer wave of magicians, those coming in behind Ammar, Colombini and other names in Apocalypse, are not as prepared to share their little tricks anymore, knowing full well that we (the magic industry's customers) are rabid to pay the $40.00 for the same thing. I further feel that this pervasive trend is effecting all those older and respected names to keep their material to themselves and not share it, instead considering the money that can be made (just like their contemporary counterparts).

Regarding Apocalypse, vols. 1 through 4, it would be an impossiblity to learn all of the effects presented even in the course of a lifetime. What you have, with this set, is a reference piece to browse whilst trying to add some panache to tricks that you do or research a new trick that may well fit into an existing routine that you do.

Further, it is also an excellent tool if used simply to browse and let your imagination run free. To learn a new trick just for the hell of learning one. To see what some truly talented men have come up with in the past.

An amazing set to have but not for "The Less Than Serious."

Mike.

I've been told that these excellent books are being reprinted next year.
They are becoming harder and harder to get hold of at the moment, so I hope t's true. I recently visited Davenports and they only had the fourth volume in stock.
I have been told that each run is a print of so many copies and it's reprinted when those are depleted. Fingers crossed.

These are classic books and it would be a shame if they just vanished.
