Another New Student of The Art!

Postby HeronsHorse » Tue Jun 19, 2018 1:53 pm

Hello to all :)
I used to be a chef, which was cut short with a severe case of Crohn's disease, leaving me doing not that much for many years.
In my last hospital stay, I decided I must acquire a new passion. Something I could enjoy from hospital bed or not! Then I remembered my life-long interest in magic. The one that began back in the 80s with my hero: Paul Daniels! :o  :o
So, ordered a deck of bikes and 'The Royal Road..' . A year later and im so addicted!!! I decided that i wont advance in the book until the previous chapter is second nature(can be done in my sleep, so to speak). Im still on that same book. And proud! (I could finish it and say its done but it isnt second nature, not yet..)
I've also gone off-book and learned some personal challenges too, like the side steal for example, which I LOVE, and the dps from erdnase(another book I work from sporadically).
So there you have it. I've performed only to friends and family. And a few times to the public in cafe's or shops, the park, the street. Largest audience = 5 people!
I want to do it all. I want to learn as much as possible...cards first but then also coins, rope and cups n balls are on my list. And more!
Sorry if I've rambled on here!

..... no need to apologise - always nice to have a full and informative introduction.

Hi and welcome to TM by the way :)

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I like the Royal Road too. In fact I am annotating it at the moment and am up to the DL chapter. I have been distracted by other business in the last couple of months from finishing it but I expect in about a year you will see it published. The original text is kept intact but I have added my own ideas.

I swear by that particular book.

Thanks for the welcome, folks. :)
And Mark, that sounds like a worthy addition to the great collection of books on Card work out there! I think it's a very valuable book. So many young/new magicians would benefit from having a read.

Welcome HeronsHorse. I admire your attitude and perseverance!

Royal Road is a great book to work through. How far are you currently?

I've also found it helpful to work through the book at the same time as watching a video. There's one by Rudy Hunter and another by R. Paul Wilson, both of which complement and work through the book. Very helpful!
