Nice review Tom, especially with the IA comparison. it sounds like you have found a goody.

Knowing what you do, if you had neither, and £35 to spend which would you buy the IA (and a bonus £9 effect) or the JP?

Is it fair to even compare them on a one to one basis like that as I suspect that from what you say they are both best in their own environment, but like I said. Which would you go for?

I recently bought the "mind spy pad" from alakazam which superficially looks just like the Janus pad.

While it did indeed look very innocent and when I saw how it worked I was delighted, when I actually used it I was highly disappointed.

Basically the peek was fairly easy however there wasn't much to peek at if you know what I mean

Works great for power writers but most anyone else I'd say it is useless.

Now I'm reluctant to spend good money after pad on a similar looking item.

Do you really think I'd be happy with the Janus?

Just got my Janus Pad last night and its a neat idea. The glimpse works a treat and my test spec didn't spot a thing even though she was standing right in front of me.
Its not closely examinable though. When working with 'A Word in a Million' I've had people making pretty accurate guesses about the gimmick used and I'm guessing this will be pretty much the same. I reckon if I hand it out more than once someone will start looking too closely.
Its also going to run out of paper pretty quick so it'll need a trip to the stationers soon for a stock of the right replacement pads too.

Its a different effect I know, but I've been using the Thought Transmitter for about a year now, repeated the trick several times in one show and got away with it. Downside of the transmitter is it looks odd. Now if some-one could come up with a pad that looks and feels like a proper pad but has the Thought Transmitter reveal built in - that would be cool.

I too have ordered a 'Mind Spy' pad from Alakazam. They tell me they're currently out of stock and they are making improvements so it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I've got the mind spy but was dissapointed with it. To write prediction on the card, hide it in a wallet and then go back to the wallet to write a prediction IMO is rather obvious!!!

OK, it can be used for other things too, but the basic peek, although clever.... has meant that I have the wallet in a drawer!

I use the thought transmitter all the time - superb!!! Interested in the Janus Pad but not if it's like the mind spy.
