The Effect the Xpert by Neil Tobin

Cost £20(ish) magicmarket.co.uk

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

would be a definite 1 but a good line in patter is also useful

What it says on the tin "Discover a new utility device. One thats already being used by performing mentalists and magicians who appreciate its understated power and seemingly limitless possibilities.

What its REALLY like to be honest when i opened the package i thought "is that it??? wheres the rest of it????" but then i started thinking about it and after a while i thought "bloody hell... this is good!!!" the device comes with 4 routines which are very good and simple to perform but as it says the possibilities are limited only by your imagination

Overall a VERY good buy for any mentalist or pretty much ANY magician who uses mentalism effects. a DEFINITE 10/10

just had a though... could also be VERY useful for a variation of seiges "double crossed" routine!

I'd appreciate a bit of a clue via PM if possible - I'm doing my head in trying to work out what the darned thing is!

I am also mightily puzzled, I have just read the review of this on the visions website too and can't think of any device which would allow you to perform those four effects and that would occasionally require you to buy refills. I would assume that like with most utility devices that the included effects are just the tip of the iceburg, let us know how you get on with it Mog.

It's difficult to bite one's tongue over this - as the concept or even a mention of it would give the game away.

Needless to say, it's an 'enigma' at first (as mentioned by Mog), but it's well worth the folding stuff.

In fairness - it's something best KEPT a secret as well!!! Especially in favour of us mentalists!

Just to add to the general confusion, check these links for more (or possibly less) help.

Shame about the non suitability of Bikes, Bees etc. but no doubt those in the know will say that's only a minor problem and will be sorted when Neil releases his 'Xpert Deck'.

No, I still have no idea!!!

Dear Mog & Seige,

Please be aware that the sudden agonising pains you are both experiencing are not the result of natural causes but purely due to the nice, sharp pins I'm sticking in these wax effigies of you both! I've spent a lot of time today surfing around to see if I can glean any more information and, as far as I can see, everyone on the planet who has this thingumydoodle is similarly tight lipped and as ecstatic as you pair.

As a result I have had no option but to order it from far overseas (at a rather attractive price!) so, if my ever loving cleaves my head in two over the state of the credit card bill, you will both have to take the blame.

Luv & kisses,

Mandrake

(Mandrake gestures hypnotically and decides to hibernate until the arrival of the jiffy bag to avoid even more frustration.)

to be honest it would be impossible to give a clue without giving it away, but all i can say is have a night at home instead of going to the pub and get the Xpert!

Shaarrrrp paaainnss innn fffiiinnngeerrrsss.... anndd oothhherrr boodddyy paaarrrttss...!

Anyways - anyone who gets this utility will agree - it ain't worth even MENTIONING the method. Anyone familiar with the 'X' method (Kenton Knepper) will possibly know what we're enthusing over - but this really is one of life's little pleasures. It's not even explainable without tipping the gaff... so please don't anyone ask any questions.

Carry it with you always - and like mog says - cancel your life for an evening and spend it with the Xpert.

OK guys, my Xpert just arrived and I can see where you're all coming from. I'd have to say that all the above comments are 100% appropriate (even the initial 'What the Hell....'on opening the package) and this little baby is going to be very, very useful.

And for all you folks who are still wondering what it is, I can tell you that it's a..., an... aaaaaaaargh!

(At this point Mandrake's vocal chords mysteriously cease to function and the ability to use a keyboard is also temporarily lost. Neil Tobin's influence obviously spreads far & wide!)

Tom, just wait until you open the package! The standard reactions are:
a) What the hell....?
b) Where's the rest of it?
c) Er, I suppose I could....
d) B*gger me - that's brilliant!

At this stage you close yourself off from society for a week or two and start inventing/developing your own Xpert effects.

(You can trust me on this, I'm just like a Doctor.)
