try looking for "Feeler strip", made by more and wright, sheffield.
which is sold in engineers supply companies. ( link bellow)
This is ultra thin strips of steel, and is usualy used for measuring very small gaps.
Its not overly expensive, and will be perfect for what ever you have in mind.
