Preperation card tricks

Postby RekwiamDream » May 31st, '06, 00:01

those card tricks that you have to prepare inorder to do, you know.

So which trick, if any, do you prepare your deck to do before you leave home.

Like if someone were to ask you to do a trick, do you have your deck set up already?

for me, these past few days have the 'ash on your arm trick' or whatever its called lol

where they pick a card and they write it down on a paper, you burn it and rub the ash on your arm and viola

set up tricks

Postby lozey » May 31st, '06, 00:17

the ash on the arm trick i dont do as a deck setup, i just use one of a million methods of forcing. I set up my arms a couple of times each, but you can always take your 'device' with you and use the excuse 'your going to the loo' like if it rains or something on the way there and you need to set up again

yea you're right, its so easy to find an excuse and force that card up

but, iunno why i have it ready for these past few days. i think cause i don't do many tricks for people and many people think I'm weird already and that's always a 'weird' one

I used to set a deck or two for specific effects, but found it too limiting. In my own experiences, I would set a deck for an effect that I thought was really powerful - and therefore a closing/final effect. As a result, I would need two decks - one regular, one set - and would need a switch to go into it. Otherwise, I couldn't really do much with the set deck - for fear I might ruin the setup.

However, as time has gone on - I've found it is REALLY easy to set cards right under your spectators' noses. As long as you make it seem offhanded, you can get away with almost anything.

So to answer your question - no, I don't have my decks set in a particular way, anymore. I just set them on the fly.

If I remember then I will set a deck up for Club Sandwich/Double Monte which is a really easy setup and just requires positioning two cards. That can easily be done on the fly though.

I usuall set it up for 2 card monte or have a dup in my pocket and palm it in for a 2 card transposition

I stayed clear of setup deck magic, then discovered how easy it is to set up a deck infront of a spec. They justdon't notice it, half the time you don't even need to make some sort of comment!

Is it me, or do people miss the obvious stuff because they are looking for the devious stuff? Like forcing a card, no one suspects that you will put one in their hands so when you do they don't give it a second thought. crazy!

very true. not just you it can be done, just keep em chatting.

anytime anywhere (sankey) briefly shows a good method and patter for setting up on the fly for a 3 card monte trick. the only setup trick on the dvd.
