This was only the second time my other half has seen Jonathan Creek (the other was the previous special). As the end credits rolled, she looked at me and said, "That was rubbish."

I said that she might have enjoyed it more had she seen some of the earlier episodes (i.e. when it was good). The show has increasingly relied upon far-fetched coincidences to enhance mysteries and I felt this last story really overdid it. Even the first series had some real howlers in the alleged methods, as I recall.

I also started off by thinking that perhaps Jonathan had been tinkering with the YouTube videos (in his universe the site has amazing picture quality, hasn't it?), but I don't think he'd kill the goose that lays the golden egg by spoiling Adam Klaus's career. I don't think Joey was responsible either; I think Adam was just angry because her suggestion for the act ended up providing perfect fodder for the people who were making the videos.

Hmmmmm I concur with the 'head scratching' that others have mentioned...

I will try to watch it again (I, too, suffered from Mandrake's Vino Syndrome)... but, did we have any information about Hugo's brother earlier in the show, or was it just brought up when they were all stood by the tree? That felt a bit like an Agatha Christie cop-out to me, witholding a crucial clue until the very end.

As I say, we may well have been given clues to the brother's existence before, but I don't remember!

And I really don't like Joey as the sidekick.... I think they should have another one-off episode where it's just Jonathan and Adam trying to solve a mystery! Let's see how Adam's shenanigans would hinder (or help!) the investigation.....

I think the problem with J.K is that they are streatching out the plot to fill the time, rather than just making it an hour as it used to be.
Things like the vanishing house, would of made an interesting plot in an hour on it's own.

they kind of dropped the peppers ghost idea though. It was mentioned, but never proved.

There was a mention of an older brother, but it was very brief and I'm not sure it actually mentioned that the brother had died. It may have been barely sufficient mention for a novel (where the reader can always go back) but wasn't really emphasised enough for a film.

Don't slander Agatha Christie! She wasn't much as a stylist, but she was always scrupulously fair with her plots.

Col had a good laugh at that shot. "Somebody just chucked that poor cat!"

I watched our recording of this one a couple of hours afterwards so was able to rewind and replay the cat section - much to the amusement of the Mandrake household!

Rather than read what you chaps have written, I decided to watch the show cold. It's still on.

I thought that there'd be a much longer thread if it was rubbish. I was badly wrong. Ninety good minutes of life wasted on such bad television! On the upside, some of the camera work was distinctly lush.

I could have been well on my way to negotiating my tenuous grip on sleep by now...

If I remember right, this programme was originally intended to be shown last Christmas but production delays made it unlikey so Easter was chosen instead. Since there were three extra months, I'd have thought the writers could have come up with a better ending. Productiion values were good as usual, the sub plot with Adam Kraus was pointless and did nothing to help the episode - in fact it's almost as though it had been cut from another episode and tacked on to this one. I fear this may have been the last we see of JC... RIP.

Apparently, This was filmed for last christmas.. but it used money from this years budget.
so they couldnt show it last year.

The cat was the best bit.

I'm not a cat person, the furry little bags of vets bills.

I thought maybe the show was suffering from a lack of Ali Bongo, but its problems were far deeper. Some of the dialogue was worse than Eastenders, the acting was genuinely wooden, and the mechanism behind the plot was flimsy to say the least.

And who's the shoe fetishist in the costume department? Did no one else spot that?
