It's sort of scripted. Each bit is a different joke that I've written at a different time and amalgamated into a script. On the night I will just have bullet points really written on my hand as prompts. As it goes I am also a competent actor :P

So to answer the question fully, it's half and half. The script is more like a running order for the jokes!

stand uup you have to script when you start off. get an idea of flow. then you just rn with it and embellish as you go.

I'm surprisingly nervous about tonight. I've been on stage or performing in some way since I was 7 years old but I've never been this nervous about anything! I guess that can only be a good thing though!

Have fun and remember: no one actually dies if it goes badly. You have the mic and are a lot louder than the loudest heckler.

I'm hosting the local SciBar event again in January. Different crowd, but the same nerves. Lots of fun.

It's true.
Works for Piff.
He can just hold up Mr PIffles and the whole crowd just goes "awww... look at the cute kitty cat.... he thinks he's a dragon.... awwww....."
Any heckle; forgotten.

Good luck mate!"

Using young animals like that is a sure fire way to get interest and, under the right circumstances, receive money!

We used to puppy walk for Guide Dogs and we often helped with street collections. Taking along a cute yellow Labrador puppy of about 8 weeks old - aka The Andrex Puppy - meant we gathered crowds of people wanting to see the puppy, stroke him/her and also put money in the collecting tin. If I'm truly honest I also enjoyed the way the rather pretty young ladies rushed over saying, "Oh isn't he cute, isn't he gorgeous?!!" Of course, I pretended it was me they were talking about..... :(

Feedback has been good. I didn't feel it went as good as it could have done as had to drop some of my material due to over-running. Waiting on video so I can see!

Sounds very promising - far better to have too much material and leave some out than stand there only halfway through your allotted time having said and done everything you can think of!
