Me again!

I suddenly have quite a bit to spend on some nice effects. I'm kind of the opposite of someone on here who posted about having loads of bought-in effects and was being advised to focus on just using a standard deck more; most of what I do is just with a standard deck and I want to treat myself to some gimmicks (as you may have noticed!).

ANYWAY...

Nothing's ever simple is it? RISING CARD DECKS. So many out there. The Ellusionist one seems a safe bet but means waiting for U.S. delivery to U.K.

A safe bet for a self-working rising card deck would be....?

self working deck?

none of teh decks are self working, they all have gimmicks of one sort or another .

If your thinking of investing in a good gaffed deck, dont buy anything other than an original Devano deck.
There not easy to come by, but the gaff is second to none.
Its not sticky, and its never going to wear out.

Davenports might be the best place to start the hunt.

If i were you, if you havent got Tarbell get them, because there are over 100 versions of the rising cards in the 7 volumes.
plus you get the thousands of other effects thrown in free!

Sorry, I probably used the wrong term. I meant that they use a gimmick but they are self-working in that the gimmick does the work for you; once the card is back in there you don't even have to hold the deck and it...just happens. Unless I've completely misunderstood it all.

Look at Henry Evans, rising card. Simple, effective, cheap. They hold the deck in the box, you can spread the pack. You can perform other magic with it.

Spooked sounds like it might be right up your alley. This isn't a gaffed deck so much as an IT hookup, but it's pretty damn spiffy because it lets you walk away from the deck on the floor and can be done with up to 3 cards.

Watch out for the Arne Rising card, the gimmick is very finicky, but when it works it is great. I happen to very much enjoy Kundalini rising by Jeff McBride. You can use any deck sorry the deck is not gimmicked but it is a great card rise.

I believe that Kundalini rising, uses a variation on the dual controll gimmick, which can be found in tarbell ( 6 or 7) , and the art of close up magic vol 1.

and you can construct it yourself, if you folow the instructions given.

I too like McBride's Kundalini Rising effect. He uses a spectator for his routine and their chosen card rises from the deck, while they are holding onto the pack of cards. You can borrow any deck for this routine. Very Cool!

I went with Galdini Version from Magicbox. Gimmicked but effective. Only problem may be I've practised so many times it's already losing it's...can't really say without revealing.

Tried it on my wife but screwed up and absolutely nothing happened. My wife seems to serve as kryptonite to my magic...whenever she's around it all goes wrong. Is this phenomenon unique to me?!

I quite agree that the Devano is the best gimmicked deck. I have been searching for the original for sometime, Davenports can no longer get them. I found a chap that has some of the original stock made by Mitch Devano in Piatnik decks after many hours of searching the web. A number of sites list their deck as Devano but it is not the original that 'pinpoints' the card rise so nicely
