I saw the floating table trick on TV and it looks pretty amazing - a small stand/table covered in a cloth (although the trick can be done without the cloth but the magician's hand is placed on/just above the table) is levitated to a reasonably high height by the magician by just holding two corners of the cloth. A spectator can hold the other two ends of the cloth and you can do the trick with spectators all around and they can even look under the table whilst you're doing the trick. I've searched for it on the internet - one was $1500, but I found another than was $120 dollars. Is it worth buying and should I be worried that the second hand one is so much cheaper than the other one?

I would be slightly worried about the second hand one, and wouldn't personally buy it without some guarantees or a viewing. Due to the nature of the way it works the table can be very fragile. On the other hand, we got one in at Studio9 a year or so ago and that sold for about £250 new I think, so there may be different versions. If you think zombie ball floating under a cloth you will have a reasonable idea of the method used in one of the versions.

Thanks a lot. The problem is that the guy is German and his English is pretty poor - he used an automatic translation program to sell it on eBay. The shipping will be insured, so I'll get my money back if it gets broken, but is there any way that I can make sure that it's not broken before I buy it? Obviously he will be in trouble from eBay for selling a shoddy product, but I still have to wonder why he's selling it, and I definitely can't afford the $1 500 one. How should I get a guarantee from him?

get pictures too, you may not be paying for what you expect to get.
I'm very suspisiouse of e-bay related stuff, but thats just me just make sure you can see what your buying and that he guarenties his product.

a basic letter that states that the product is in the same quality as pictured and is of enough quality to perform the task it needs to do.
and that it is in good working order.

if its what you want then go for it, were possible use an escroe agency so that they dont get your money untill your happy with the product.
there was a case were lots of people burght coffee machine's that didin't have the class coffee pots included even though the pics showed them and as such were unfit for use.

Thanks - I've emailed him (in internet translated German and English) and asked him if the joints are working and if it is in good working order. Would an email confirmation of these things be sufficient for a guarantee? With the coffee thing, couldn't the people send the product back because of false advertising?

if the company that sold them actualy exsisted yes they could and yes an e-mail confirmation would be saficiant provided he is a genuine trader with e-bay you pay your money and take your chances thats the nature of the beast I'm afraid, sound like this guy is on the leval though hope it turns out ok for you, we will be expecting a review though.
