The Effect

They Say :

Every bizarre performer should be able to read tarot cards and every psychic needs to read tarot cards to make money!

Now the ‘Tarot’ Made Easy’ course, previously only available as a part of our ‘Psychic Reader’s Kit’ is on sale in its own right.

This is the most simple and direct tarot reading course available today. It is a no nonsense easy step by step guide to learning the meaning of all 78 tarot cards (major & minor arcana) and having done that we teach you simple methods of putting the meanings together to give a full tarot card reading. You will be doing tarot readings in a very short period of time, even within a couple of hours!

Not only can you make money from your readings (about £25.00 for a 30 minute reading) but you will be able to entertain friends and family with this very popular method of fortune telling.

You could work at pubs and clubs and psychic fairs as well as doing private readings from your home.

We even supply you with a set of our ‘standard’ tarot cards as well at the easy to follow book/course.

Just learn the system!

Review

This is a great little package. You get a full pack of tarot cards as well as the book. This little 20 page book is very well printed on good quality paper. The pictures are very clear and in colour and the book is spiral bound with a nice colour cover. So down to the system...

This is a very simple but effective system for tarot reading. I have had books in the past that make things so hard and esoteric that it really puts you off learning the system. This is not the case here. The book takes you through 8 easy stages to learn the system. You will begin by learning the meanings of the major arcana tarot. This is done by learning the key words, no long winded explanations here! You will then move on to the Minor arcana. Here the Black Hart will explain the meaning of the four suits. Then you are told the meaning of each number for each suit and how to put it all together. Next comes the stage to teach you about the court cards of the minor arcana and this is explained in a clear concise mannner that is easy to follow and to learn. Once you have learnt that there is a page to help you put it all together. The next stage of the book is all about putting meaning together to give a reading. It begins with two card readings and examples are given to help you on the way. You then consider the three card reading with examples to help you. Once you have studied and learnt this section the Black Hart explains about three card spreads, 5 card spreads and twelve month readings. Once again examples are given to help you learn the system. You also get information on rules of tarot reading, a proper explanation of the death card etc. All through the book you are given examples and exercises to make life easier for as you learn to perform tarot readings.

I am currently working my way through this little and i am very happy with it. I have a slight advantage in that i have done some tarot reading before. However, the system that i tried to learn was so long and esoteric that it was not suitable for quick corporate readings. This is the real advantage of this book... You have a system that can produce a quick 3-5 minute reading for corporate work or one that can produce a 30 minute private reading. All in all i really enjoyed having a quick read through it and am now studying it in detail. You will be surprised just how quick you will be able to give readings to people.

Overall

10/10 Simple, does the job, very adaptable, easy to learn

Well, Lord Freddie's easy guide to Tarot readings will be available soon!
Simple method, no memory work but using a little known subtlety called BS which when used properly and using the principle that if the sitter knew anything about tarot then they wouldn't pay you £30 for a reading is guranteed to work every time!
Quick thinkers and fast talkers need only apply.

Have you been reading my lecture notes again?

:D Psychology, perception and gift of the gab are required to make yourself a nice little sideline. Forget the booklet that comes with the cards!

Trouble is that once you start doing readings seriously (ie taking bookings for 1-to-1 readings, working at psychic fairs etc) you really do need to know what each card in the tarot deck represents. The people who book you for readings or visit you at psychic fairs are the very people who are both prepared to pay £30 per reading but will also at the very least have a basic knowledge of the cards. It's not very often that you get a booking from someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the tarot. Even people who just watch all the Most Haunted type programmes on TV will have at least some knowledge, and the last thing you need is someone saying "Hang on a minute. You're just making this up." And believe me, if they suspect it, they'll accuse you.

Well said wand! it is important to know the meanings of the tarot and take the reading seriously

Never been questioned yet. You relate the imagary on the card to whatever is appropriate at the time. To be honest, if someone had a tarot deck and knew it inside out then they certainly wouldn't pay someone to do it.
The meanings given to the cards (officially) are so vague that they can encompass many things. I know little about the real meanings but have been told that my 'readings' are "uncannily accurate" and as with psychics if someone WANTS to believe, they will attach your vagueness to something in their life. The system I use (which I am in the process of writing up) has worked for me and is ideal for people that don't want to take the pseudo new age bollo seriously. I have done psychic fairs and given readings at spiritualist events. I trained for 5 years in the circle at a spiritualist church so I know a lot about the psychology of people that come to these things.

I've heard the argument before that it's not neccesary to know the "true" meanings of the cards. Personally I like to feel that I'm giving as "authentic" a reading as possible, and that includes knowing the accepted meaning for each card. I feel that this means that at least I've taken the time to study the cards and shows a level of respect for the spec.

However I have and do work with "genuine" psychics (that's not to say I'm not genuine) who will also admit to not knowing the meanings of the cards and use them only as props to enhance the experience for their clients.

Each to their own I guess, but I personally prefer to be at least aware of what each card represents - however vague that represention may be.

Complicated innit.

That's very interesting. I've heard of people using fortune telling equipment as a prop for cold reading, but didn't know that 'real' psychics sometimes do the same. It makes sense, though, as more than one person has observed that the clients often feel more relaxed when they can see something happening.

There are, of course, lots of reasons to know the actual meanings of the cards.

First, if you give a reading based on the actual cards, even if slightly 'enhanced', you are doing exactly what you are paid for. There's no element that the client is being ripped off. Even if you are a sceptic, you can't deny that the person is getting what they paid for, even if you think the whole thing is nonsense.

Second, it can fire up your imagination, a bit like Lord Freddie does with the imagery in his deck. If you know the subtle and esoteric meanings and significances (even if you don't believe in them), it can lead you off into new areas.

Third, it avoids the possible scenes if you completely misinterpret a card, and the sitter knows enough to spot the error. I think you are unlikely to be called out at the time, but if the client doesn't think you know what you are doing, you might lose out on repeat business.

I completely disagree with the view that someone who knows their way round a Tarot deck would never pay someone for a reading. There can be an element of counselling in a reading, so that won't work on your own. Also, some people don't feel they have a particular affinity with the cards, while a 'genuine' psychic would.

As an example, my girlfriend reads the Tarot occasionally, purely for fun. She gives readings to her best friend for free, yet that same friend has frequently paid £30 to psychics for 'proper' readings.

Incidentally, I gave this same friend an apparently very accurate mini-reading, using only a set of Tenyo Fortune Sticks.

I'm sure Craig will have some good advice on this topic!

Yes, psychics are a weird bunch (but you'd expect nothing less). Some use the cards purely as a prop, and will do their reading "from spirit" or purely on a "psychic" level. others will use the cards in the accepted sense, but their spreads have no rhyme or reason and they just seem to deal off as many cards as suits their purpose. Yet others will deal off just one card, and can make a 30 minute reading from just that one card.

Readers who use accepted spread techniques such as the celtic cross are usually viewed as beginners or part-timers by the full time psychic fair working readers. A real hardened "side-show" psychic will essentially make it up as they go along, and as many cards as their intuition tells them is required.

I come from both a shut-eye and an open-eye background. i learnt the tarot as a shut-eye, then got into magic & mentalism and had my eyes opened a little. I have the hugest respect for both camps, and I have a foot placed very firmly in both camps. At psychic fairs, if trade is a bit slow, readers will often "swap" readings - IE you do a reading for me and I'll do a reading for you. I've never had what I would consider a decent reading from a shut-eye reader. My readings for them have always been better. The big wafty robe wearing shut eye readers used to intimidate me. I assumed they'd be brilliant and a lot better than me. Truth is, in the main, they're so-so.

Boy, I can talk when I want to can't I?

We're a very esoteric bunch! :D There also seems to be a few people on TM with a real passion for readings and for "the" cards, which is great to see.
