PRESSURE - from Merchant of Magic

The Effect
VISUAL fusion between two everyday objects taken to the next level!

You show two coins. A 50p coin and a 1p coin. Just by pressing them at your fingertips, they become totally FUSED together. The 1p coin REALLY is shown to be embedded in the 50p coin!

The two coins never leave the spectators sight as slowly and in almost 'test conditions' they are pressed together.

HERE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE EFFECTS POSSIBLE:

PLACE THE TWO COINS ON THE TABLE AND SLAM YOUR HAND DOWN ONTO THEM TO MAKE THEM JOIN!

HOLD THE 50p COIN AT YOUR FINGERTIPS AND THROW THE PENNY AT IT. AS THE PENNY HITS THE 50p COIN THEY FUSE!

SHAKE BOTH COINS IN YOUR CUPPED HANDS AND THEY BECOME ONE!

With Pressure, magicians finally have a practical clean and angle free method of creating an impossible magicial object right at the fingertips!

Cost
LIGHT PRESSURE -(COIN + INSTRUCTIONS ONLY) - Price: £14.99
PRESSURE - (SECOND EDITION) - Price: £24.99
The second edition of PRESSURE includes an additional special device that allows even more amazing effects to be performed!

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

There are a few different routines supplied ranging from 1 to 3 on the difficulty level.

Review

Fantastic. It is pretty much as good as the description says. The simpler routines are very well described and are very easy to perform.

For someone performing close-up/restaurant magic, a magician will be better off (in my opinion) showing some of the more complicated routines provided, but will however need to practice to ensure smoothness. These are nothing more than a couple of basic sleights and (if wished) would end perfectly by combining any known coin vanish to the trick.

The spectator can truly hold the fused coin and investigation will not give the secret away.

Merchant of Magic state that this is Angle Free. I ALMOST agree. You do have to be slightly careful the fusion is not seen before you apply pressure…

The second edition contains an extra gimmick which makes the routine much easier to perform. It is not CRUCIAL I would say, yet more skill will be required to perform the illusion without it.

A note on this extra gimmick: In itself, this is a great, stand alone accessory that many magicians should find useful. It is sold on its own by Merchant Of Magic for £15.99, so any magicians not owning this will do well to purchase the second edition of this effect.

My only gripe with this, is that by saving £5.99, you will not receive the 13 routines that would normally come with it. Fine for any magicians that have used it before, but for myself, will just have to use my imagination.

However, as this is supplied purely to aid PRESSURE, it suits its required purpose.

I have not had the chance to perform this to a paying audience, but the people that I have shown it to, have had great reactions. It is certainly one I will be keeping in my pocket.

Overall

- Instructions : 8/10 Very clear on albeit photocopied paper. They are kept simple and concise and don’t raise any “Huh??”s when reading, which I have found on a few tricks (Like NFW...lol  )
- Gimmick : 9/10 Very well made and should last a lifetime. Why not 10? I personally would have preferred the fused penny to be raised slightly out of the 50p instead of flush to it.
- Audience impact - 8/10 (I anticipate…but subject to change)
Value for money - 9/10. For £24.99 I would have preferred more professional looking instructions…but realistically - will I look at them again?? Possibly not.
- OVERALL 9/10.
A great illusion, great idea and a virtually foolproof method to show something that (as far as I am aware) has not been seen before.

Thank-you to Dominic Reyes and Ben Williams for developing Robert Fenechs' original idea.

(First review here - hope its ok)

Good review.

Curious, any vid clips of it performed? Or, could you do one?

Would like to see it done.

* Edit, nevermind. saw it at the bottom of the ad.. however, the link was not working.

Great review, thanks! I might get this, I can imagine it getting excellent reactions when performed well.

Thought I would just relight this thread as my Pressure effect came today and I have been playing with it all day.

Great effect. Absolutely class in my opinion. I showed it to a few mates who were gobsmacked. Especially as I borrowed both coins and then handed them back out after I tore the coins from each other.

I want to get another 3 or 4 of the effect (obviously the light version) so I can give away the fused coin as a keepsake for really important performances.

9/10 for me. Instructions could have been better. but other than that...Quality!

The inability to give these things out somewhat sours the effect for me - would be an incredible souvenir if you could use their coins and then hand them back in a fused state... :?:

Well you could do just that, couldn't you. You'd have to speak to Merchant of Magic, and someone else, but yes you could do that. Your business losses would go up though, dependant slightly on how many times you wanted to perform it.

At the price, you could probably justify doing the trick just once at a wedding reception and giving the fused coin away to the bride.

Just work it into your fee.

That's true, but I think the cost could come down massively. Once the jig is up you could knock the giveaway up in, quite literally, seconds. That's why, I'm guessing, they used a 50 pence coin, as there's no "turn" in it.

I make my own and give them away to the bride and groom.

It takes a bit of time but I do a few at at time.

I actually make it flush so theres no way its coming out.
