bog off lol, please dont think i dislike the svengali deck, no matter what i say i do like it. but hey, 'tis just my point of view. i only wish it wasnt so widly known. its ingenious and should have been kept to magicians only, next you will find a decent length of IT in a marvins magic set.

before I bog off, for the record it is possible to baffle people who know about, and indeed, own one of these. A few regular effects, a quick DS and you're well away. The only point that I was sussed out was when I turned the entire pack to the same card, that was when the knowing grins came and only then. This was to magii. Until that point they were none the wiser and were getting more confused by the minute. That said, to lays, as Mark said, the aforesaid effect would still slay them.

where can i get this book? ill have to check it out. see if i agree with you guys after.

So does the Svengali deck do all the hypnosis itself? Or does the magician have to know the basics? And how do you make sure that only the audience gets hypnotised? I'd hate to end up in a trance during one of my own routines - although it has been known to happen when they're that tedious.

Alot of these topics are really getting silly and there is pointless banter going on. Everyone prefers there own methods and gimmicks. So heres what i propose instead of using a svengali or a mirage how about using a regular deck and learning some sleights then you can do all the above mentioned aswell.

Ideally, you are in a form of trance when you perform something you know well. You're unconsciously competent at it so ou don't have to consciously pay attention to it.

Is it me or, in the words of Hunter S. Thompson, have the vibes turned ugly today? Personally, I've been chasing a bad payer and it looks like I'm getting all my invoices paid up to date. Hurrah!

I'm another backer of the Svengali.

When I first tried a Mirage I was very impressed, and almost totally switched to using it. However, I switched back as I felt that the disadvantage of not really being able to allow a spectator to handle the deck as much (cutting, shuffling pulling out cards etc) far outweighed the advantages of easy spreading; having to spread a deck face down and then turn it over has never caused me to re-evaluate an effect, but not being able to allow a spec to handle the cards has.

you can spread it either way, mate! good opinion though...

i let the spec handle the mirage deck as much as i used to with my sven...

Oops! Sorry for not explaining. Well first off they are about as cheap of a gimmicked deck that you can get, so you can buy more than one and that allows you to be able to perform the trick more than once. Also, I have NEVER had someone find me out. They are usually in too much awe to ask to9 examine the deck, and, if you can beleive it, I gett srome of my best reactions from this deck. In English class, I performed this to a kid/guy sitting beside me, and he got up in the middle of class and started to walk around the room laughing and holding his head. And even though you can buy them almost anywhere, almost no one knows the secret of them. That is why they are "Awesome".
