The Effect
Two poker chips are shown. One black and one white. One chip is held in each hand. The chips transpose from hand to hand. Just when the spectators think they have figured it out, the chips suddenly change into bright colors on all sides. Comes complete. Easy to do. No skill required.

Review
This is a great little trick by empire magic. Two poker chips switch places from hand to hand, the audience just thinks you are turning them over (and that they have the opposite color on the other side), but when chips are slide over each other, they change to bright colors, twice. At the end of the trick they can be handed out for examination.

Positives: Easy to do. Fun trick.

Negatives: There is something about it though. I can't say what it is without giving away the trick, but on my set it isn't completely examinable afterwards. When I was in the magic shop and it was performed for me I examined the chips and they looked fine. But overall, I think they are examinable.

This sounds just like black and white surprise. I got my set from Davenports (sadly lost a chip recently and they are out of stock). They are more expensive but made of brass and completely examinable. It is probable that these are a cheaper version. Are they brass?

My uncle showed me another effect along the same lines over Christmas with much larger disks and monkeys on each that change into other animals. Being brighter, pictorial and larger at around 3 or 4 inches across, these would be very suitable for kids, although made of plastic and not nearly as examinable.

I agree it is a very simple effect to perform and it leaves you very free to come up with some quite fun patter. This gets some of the best reactions. I am always asked to show this one.

They aren't brass. Just plastic. The brass ones sound interesting though. I'll have to look into that.

The brass versions, Blan#ck and White Surprise and Colour Decption are brilliant and from time to time I still use it (CD).

I have the brass set and they can be passed out after the trick is done. This is a great visual effect and worth the purchase price. I got lucky, I won it in a raffle and I only bought ten tickets at a dollar each. I have had hundreds in fun with it. Go for the brass, you will like it better than the brass. It is called Color Deception.

i too have a brass set.

I have had lots of fun with this simple illusion. very easy to perform , but very impressive with the correct patter.
My biggest problem is that i have recently seen it advertised in a "gizmo" style book given away with news papers.

I have been performing Black and White Surprise (Davenports) for years now and I love it. More importantly, so do the spectators! Some of them like to examine the chips, some don't. Fine by me either way. This is one of my most performed effects.

The guy in Davenports demonstrated this to me with the brass chips and it was good, but for that price and limited use it was a no no for me!
