You Choose

The Effect

A deck of cards is spread out and a spectator freely selects a card from the deck (spectator can be allowed to change their mind before looking at the card). After the spectator looks at the card, it is placed back in it's place in the deck and the deck is squared. The magician then counts out 6 piles of 8 cards and shows the remaining for cards are not the card selected. The spectator then chooses one of the pile and the rest are discarded. The magician then counts out six cards, displaying the remaining two to not be the card selected. The spectator then selects one of the six cards (through both selections spectator may change their mind before the revelation). That card is revealed to be the card they selected. Then the other cards are also revealed to be the card they selected as well.

Cost

I believe I payed 10.00 US for this. Far as I know, this trick is only available at Crown Magic in Warren, Michigan. The place is kind of a hole in the wall so I don't know if they have come around to internet or mail order yet, but it might be worth looking into.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

2. No sleights required, just a stroke of luck that the spectator does not choose the wrong cards. Odds are good that they will choose the right one. I'm not sure how much more I can say without giving out the secret.

Review

I love this trick. It kills every time. Cannot be done more than once per person and requires some reset, so if you're doing table to table, reset it out of view of your next table (criss cross the venue or something). I sometimes wonder about revealing that all 6 cards were the selected card, sometimes I think it's a cool finish, but other times I think it might give too much away.

Overall
9/10.

This doesn't sound like an effect that is suitable for walkabout or table hopping. You need something that's fast, snappy and instant reset.

I would strongly recommend Alan Astra's FOOTPRINT trick. Any card named is found to have a gold footprint hot foil printed on it.

Instant reset and any card can be chosen.

That might be a nice effect, but the fact that it relies on luck and what sound like something we all know about means that it doesn't sound like a tenner's worth at all.
