Far Sight by Devin Knight

So...

You're a card magician. You see an effect by someone who has published *other card effects*. You like the look of it. You buy it. You open it. You read the following words amongst the instructions:

"Let me state up front [not as up front as in the ad, eh?] this is meant to be a showpiece. The ONLY card trick you do during the session or a show...".

Any more would give too much away but I think I'm allowed to say that the reason for this is if, for example, you only work with bikes, your spectator would potentially smell a rat very easily. Funny how the cover of the trick only shows bikes, eh?!

I'd sell it in an instant if it wasn't for the fact I've probably already put most of you off.

So...anyone out there prepared to buy this off me as their *only* card effect?

Tim

why not review it properly, and put us all out of our misery? :D

I would but it's probably been done already and someone will say "Why have you reviewed this again? Click on this link instead..." even though the search engine on here won't have picked it up.

So...

THE EFFECT (in my words):

Performer lays out 12 cards. Turns his back. Asks spectator to pick one out, cover the others with a cloth and place his choice face down on top. Performer turns round (admittedly can be even 30ft away) and asks spectator to put hand over card. Performer writes prediction. Spectator reveals and - yay! - performer is correct.

MY OPINION:

In truth, lovely effect: Performer is too far away to read a marked card. Just read my comments above to see flaw in this effect.

MY SCORE:

As a card magician through and through I'm kind of stuck so would give it about 3/10. If you would like to buy this off me however I'd give it about a 9. ;-)

It has been reviewed already and I bought it - and have never performed it for the reason outlined.

Glad to hear I'm in good company.

I mean this sincerely, by the way, having read some of your other posts.

I'm confused then...cos dat's review is a good/positive one...

i'll give you a fiver for it, Tim?!

Sorry to be confusing. Like the instructions say, if this was the only card effect you used, it may wow your audience. BUT if you do lots of other card stuff, you may not pull this off so well. That seems such a contradiction doesn't it?

Sorry to be so obtuse but if I said exactly why, I'd be gagged by the mods!!

i will buy it from you, but, only for a fiver...seriously... :?:

I've just paid £12 for it and literally only opened it to read the instructions.

I'm happy to take a very quick loss sometimes for the sake of learning about an effect (which, in this case, I couldn't reproduce without the gimmicked cards I hasten to add) and whether it's right for me, but not £7 I'm afraid.

Thanks for your interest.

Tim

i reckon you should give it a go and perform it then...see what the reactions are like, before you stick it away in the 'special drawer'...sometimes effects seem rubbish until you use them...

You may be right. I am too dismissive sometimes. With the right audience, it may work.

Hey, I may also give my Humbug a go!!

Will keep you posted...I may end up after that fiver after all!

Hi All,

I bought this AGES ago and have only performed it a handful of times BUT - this is a very strong effect and I have had the best reactions when performing as a mentalist effect (ie - not following a Sleight of hand/Card trick)
With this trick you really have to set the scene with patter and emphasise the impossibility of the effect to get great reactions.

Please give it a whirl as a 'one off' trick (or a strong opener with a following D*** S***ch) and you will see how good it is.

Thanks

andy

I bought this too and have never used it.

In my opinion not a patch on Blindsight which is excellent.

It's not good when a spectator asks you a question that makes you have to lie to them to throw them OFF the method.

Basically, as soon as the spec turned over their chosen card they asked me about the "special characteristic" to which I had to assure her "nothing to do with it......"
That's why you can't use it if you use Bikes predominantly.

I haven't used it again after that.

But if you DON'T do much card stuff, especially with bikes you MAY be ok.
Also, the spec knew me hence was used to my using bikes so...im sure if you perform outside your circle you'll be fine too but, my personal experience was not so good.

Blind Sight I totally agree. Very clever effect!
