Any one used this with Euros? What works best? Both to bend and as camouflage?

Well what can I say ...........

I sometimes end up buying a "trick" 'cos I really want to know the secret and if I'm not happy with it, I can always sell it on and prob get most of my money back ....... well ........ not with this one - this is here to stay .

I've performed this about 5 or 6 times now and I LOVE IT. The reaction from the specs is great and the more they try and figure it out, the more baffled they become.

I was initially a bit worried about the actual bending of the coin, but there's so much time with the misdirection, it's just criminal. Believe me, if I can do it, I'm sure anyone can, 'cos I'm not the nimblest of people.

Last night I tried a new patter, which went down quite well. I get them to write "space" on one side of the coin and "time" on the other and also draw a straight line, plus to add a few doodles to personalise the coin . On the other coin I get them to draw a stick man of a weight lifter, then I go through the patter of them imagining that the stick man is bending the straight line on the coin. This action is bending the very fabric of space and time and I explain that if we bend space and time, we can go back in time.
After a short while, I explain that the coins have now gone back in time to a point before we drew on them. I tell them that the coins now have no writing on them, but that prob wouldn't impress them, as they would only think that I'd swapped the coins for some different ones, or the ink had just rubbed off. So then I take them further back in time to a point before they were even made/minted. I ask them if they can still feel the coins in the hand, to which they reply, "yes". I explain that the reason they can still feel the coins, is that only the coins have travelled back in time. The hands are still in the present time and they think that they are still holding the coins. I get them to open their hands and I look confused when the coins are still in their hands ..... and I mutter something along the lines of space and time not being bent ........ then wait for the reaction when they see the bent coin in their hand .

I had a booking last night and really struggled with a new 10p - (not Olympic new - but the one with part of the coat of arms on - 2011 I think) - I had an absolute nightmare trying to bend it. I've just done a test this evening, and I'm really struggling with a lot of new 10ps. One of them I couldn't even dent. I've never noticed this before - in all my years of performing this (around 5 years) I've never had a problem - I must have always just had older coins by chance. I make a point of using their coins but I think if I notice they hand me a new one, 'll do a switch for an older one and get someone else to sign it - or better still get them to hold out their change in their hand and I'll pick one.

If you've not had this issue yet - just try one or two so you know what you're in for!

The new 10p's, post 2012 have a steel core and yes, they are a nightmare to bend, same with 5p's. Problem is that without checking you never know how easy a coin will be to bend (it's the same with 1 and 2p's which changed metals in the 90's). If you exert too much pressure expecting the coin to be a challenge when it is actually an early coin the bend will be ridiculous, not enough pressure on a modern coin and nothing happens, you then need to look for another moment of misdirection to get in another bend.
A consideration would be to ask the spectator to name the date on their coin so they can later verify it is their coin. You will then be pre-warned.

Could a hidden magnet, or PK ring not be used to find out if the coin is steel cored or not?

I can see this becoming a bigger problem as the older coins go out of circulation. Remember every time you bend a coin, that is another one gone!

Thought I'd answer my own question...

I spent nearly three weeks in Holland and Germany (mainly for the Karnival in Cologne... Highly recommended!) and did a ton of tables out there. As well as being a great experience doing magic for groups of people who's first language isn't English, I did Coinvexed almost everywhere I went!

For the "Camouflage" bit of the trick, I stuck a on couple of the smaller Cent denominations (I think a 2 and a 5). The darker, smaller coins stick quite nicely, and don't need any glue I left a larger 2p coin on the end, as being English it doesn't seem out of character for me to have the odd British coin in my pocket. I find that I get better "leverage" from it!

As far as bending the coins goes, the only thing that didn't work, unsurprisingly, was the 1 and 2 euro coins... beyond that, it was a doddle!

It all worked great! I love this piece of magic! I just did what I normally do with this and gave people lots of time, and they felt the coins bending in their hands

(If you happen to do Colin Mcleods "Serial Prevaricator," Unsurprisingly, it works fine with Euro notes!)

Anyway, with summer coming up... holidays getting close... Hope this helps

A couple of years ago I went through a period where because of the internet people were suspecting the sharpie. From the descriptions they were describing the quantum bender, (giggle giggle, English childish humour), I had to fall back on the original coinvexed, my coin bending first love and have stuck with it since.
