Posted: Nov 27th, '14, 06:03Everyone has their own opinions. There are situations where it can and can't be used. I haven't had a problem with visibility of the gimmick - the vanish and empty hand gesture is very quick and therefore I find that the gimmick is unseen. I wouldn't perform it however under bright light scenarios - but then no different to other thread based routines.
As I previously stated, in the right situation its a killer!

Posted: Nov 28th, '14, 11:18I lectured at the Leamington and Warwick Magic Society on Wednesday. In the lecture I explain that I haven't bought a magic prop in nearly 15 years and if I can't make it myself I don't use it. I then perform and explain a 30 min cabaret mentalism act in a paper bag all the components of which can also be performed close up.
At the interval a guy came up to me and said and I quote "I wish I hadn't bought anything for the last 15 years because most of the stuff I have spent loads of cash on is c*** (not the best)". I said sorry to hear that and he replied with, "The last thing I bought was Hidden Hand by Sean Fields, and the dealer description and marketing is completely misleading". I said oh yes what's the effect, which he went on to explain. I said that sounds familiar and he said "yeah just think p***, I could have made it myself for a couple of quid".
Pity.

Yes I went to the club a couple of months ago too - nice crowd.
Many people will look at just the raw materials used in an effect, and then attribute a value to the trick based on this. To me personally, I prefer to look at the value of the effect in terms of usage and not the gimmick or prop value. A trick sold for £10 is expensive if you never use it and conversely one for £50 May be a bargain if you're using it everyday.
This will apply both ways to Hidden Hand. I feel I can use it, and therefore aren't bothered by the price. Others, will see it as a drawer filler, and then it's just a waste of money!
