Will to Read

Will to Read by Steve Dela and presented by Alakazam Magic.

Whoa....I mean totally WHOA! This is Free Will on steroids.

Natural presentation with borrowed props (if you like). This lives in my wallet already. This is powerful stuff. Steve's presentation hits like a brick. Peter Nardis presentation hits like a brick wrapped in a velvet hankie! Win/win.

Everything said about it is true. Soooo little memory work to be done. Every presentation option is offered and catered to in the neatly presented package you get...blimey...Steve Dela should be VERY proud of himself and there's Alakazam for you once again, offering a real treat at a very good price.

I did hover over the buy button with this one, but when I watched the promo vid it looked to me like the "torn page" had two sides to it, with mxxxxxxe oxxs on each page so every eventuality could be covered. Please don't tip the method, but it occurred to me that if I bought the effect, and that was the method, you would hear me screaming in agony from the other side of the universe. I'm hoping that the effect is slightly more sophisticated than that. I'll simply ask this: Is the paper fully examinable - ie. can a spectator read that piece of paper cover to cover, front and back without coming across anything suspicious?

Well, you might scream a little bit but it isn't as bad as you might be fearing. It's all very carefully thought and worked out and the presentation ideas and approaches cleverly cover a LOT of any potential weaknesses, especially Peter Nardis presentation...built in cover and back story...pure sly genius! DO watch the whole DVD, it is a bit like two guys sitting n a sofa chatting because it is two guys sitting on a sofa chatting but there are true gems of info in there...all very helpful.

I had some of your same concerns but was surprised when I saw what I got, how many variations you are given material for and just how this approach covers more than it risks.

My only concern with it was the promo vid. The performer actually points to a particular section of the page and reads it out. If I were a spectator I'd want to read the whole thing afterwards or at least skim read both sides. I know the sort of places I've worked in, it wouldn't be long before someone said, "give me that" and seized, or tried to seize it, for a closer inspection. I can handle it if that kind of thing does occur, but I take it that's something I'd be wanting to avoid if possible??

K :)

(As an aside, it just reminded me of the poor souls who bought that effect (can't remember it's name) where you get loads of old spooky photographs and the spec ends up selecting the murderer/ghost/whatever it was. Magicians in their thousands queued up to buy it. It was really expensive. About £50 if memory serves. Their packages arrived and they opened their boxes in sweet anticipation only to discover a few old photographs and a DVD telling them to equivoque the picture. I tell you, I can hear their screams in my sleep to this very day!!!!)

I think you will find a couple of options and approaches/presentations that will help with different situations.

Oh yes, if you have a BIP 2 book you will find some cool cross references you can use as well. You could give everything a Matrix/Inception feel...if t'were you style.

Any update on this re my comments? I'd love to know what you think of it.

I just watched a promo for "Symbol - by Steve Cook" and had a similar hissy fit. It's abundantly clear in the promo that the outcome is "luck" and that when the DVD arrives you'll find out that the strongest 'outcome' is down to chance and everything else is either weaker or just plain ridiculous. I do wish they'd actually be honest with you in these promos. If I actually knew what I was buying I might...... you know..... be more inclined to buy it. But hey ho!!

May I suggest you take a glance at the review of Scream I've just posted, if you're not too busy or drunk. In an astonishingly prolix roller-coaster ride of emotions, I do take a moment or six to discuss Will to Read.

Re that, I do agree that the DVD shows the strongest outcome but some others argue that the other 2 options are equally strong & TBH although I'd prefer the DVD outcome I haven't found any less a reaction to the other outcomes...

Totally agree with the comment on Symbol and found Volition even more disappointing. In fact I'm holding off buying B.I.P. and Will to Read for more reviews but feel I should say that Alakazam usually have high standards
