I have had this for years and it's still m favourite ACAAN.
I later bought the tutorial DVD for help with the move required from Alakazam and this is rubbish. The selection made is one that needs no special moves and the filming is so naff that the deck is out of shoot at important times.

sounds like too much messing around with the cards, which could make an eager participant suspect you'd tampered with the cards. after all if you're making a prediction, why would you not take the jokers into account when making it? i think the best way to go with this one is keep it simple, and do "the move" in a very matter of fact way while you're talking to them and engaging them.....

Actually i thought of placing a joker just at the face and as the pack is drawn halfway out then draw attention to it and pull it out, at the same time you can at least push one card backwards while drawing attention to the joker.

Im not Richard Turner but one supposes that after some practice the finger fumble method as avised would go unoticed as you mentioned

Like to explore all avenues first before under fire

Also maybe use a Piatt envelope for the reveal so one can hand the card out.

:D I might just steal that idea! The prediction reveal always bothered me a little, so I think I'd be much happier using the envelope!

The other reveal could be to tape a Photograph under the spec seat and/or put another prediction in say your briefcase in a massive photoframe with PREDICTION wrote on big size so that if the case was opened it would be pretty obvious that you dont have 52x 16 inch photgraphs stored around. or maybe hanging up

btw
im still thinking on this. i do have the intuition deck and this does rely on Jokers part of the time fyi. ( a similar effect)

Martin at International told me that Juan Tamariz had publsihed a similar effect in his book to the Grail. have to look this up...

Can the prediction card be placed inside an envelope?

You could use a regular envelope but no point really.

Well, I just ask because with some people the whole envelope before you start thing gives a little extra kick, particularly if you pass the effect of as some sort of Influence/Mental trick.

If you use a PIATT envelope set then you could use a normal deck of cards.

The best effect using this is Eugene Burgers Black Envelope prediction.

Brilliant

So, with a little PayPal jiggery-pokery, my copy of The Grail arrived yesterday, and I’ve now had some time to play...

I don’t think that the mechanics are going to any huge revelation to anybody, but – in many ways – this is a bonus, as the handling is so much simpler as a direct result of the basic methods employed.

As has already been pointed out, the simplistic workings do away with the need for any sleights, moves or skill; yes, there is a little *something* that’s sometimes required, but I couldn’t – in all honesty – even approach describing this as any kind of move, per se (more of a fumble, if anything!!)

Again, as already touched upon, there’s a very tiny amount of memory-work involved (and even this can be cribbed); you’ll also need to be able to add and subtract in your head...though the largest number you have to use is three, so – if you’ve graduated from primary school – all should be good :D

With such basic methodology, I can completely understand how so many owners of The Grail will allow it to languish, unused, in their bottom drawers – it almost feels like a rather mediocre effect, based solely on the workings, and it would be easy to allow this feeling to colour one’s perception of the actual spectator-view of the effect...

That said, it’s worth highlighting that the playing out of The Grail is *killer*; everything is so fair, that there seems to be absolutely no room for trickery whatsoever (you can even have another spec hold the face-down prediction card firmly between their palms, whilst the effect plays out, further emphasising the normality of the cards !!)

The only downside I've found so far is that part of the effect is unexaminable, whilst another part will not bear too much scrutiny. That said, there is a way around both of these issues, by introducing a certain type of envelope to hold the prediction card (with very little forethought, this could actually *enhance* the effect, as you could actually perform with nothing more that your little envelope, and a borrowed deck). That said, there will be those who prefer the 'naked' card approach, and don't mind unexaminable kit at the conclusion...

...Either way, The Grail really IS a massively impressive effect, which deserves far more exposure than it's received so far :D

An easy score of 9/10 from me on this one

Hey, is anyone familiar with Peter Nardi's version from The Grail Gold Edition which incorporates the envelope?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiRA9r0gSvI

Is this too good to be true, and is that version very difficult to do?

Just got this today & am in the mood for revising old topics :-)

Actually watching the Gold edition, have watched the first section which covers the original version & having had a twiddle with the "move" OUCH! No way I can do this so called non move. Impossible for me to differentiate what I need to differentiate to do this :?:
If it wasn't for this I would really like this & am hoping as I watch the rest of the DVD there is an alternate handling.

Nope, no alternate handling, I do like this but I know it's something I am not going to be able to get to grips with.

As far as the memory work goes even I can handle that, I shall now have a hunt to see if there is a gimmick I can get to assist me in my little problem.

I bought this at Blackpool two years ago, took it out once and got the maths wrong. I must dig it out and try again.

Back of draw for me, there is no way I can do the "move" quickly & smoothly.
And have to say on the demo, Mr Nardi only shows the move at slow pace, need a better way to hold cards back?
