The Effect: Two metal washers, one in each hand is shown. The spectator chooses a washer. One washer is placed in the spectator's hand the other in the magician's hand. The magician slowly pulls the hole in the washer completely off and becomes a solid metal disk in front of the spectator. A little patter and then the spectator is asked to inspect the washer in his hand and a second hole has appeared in the washer he/she was holding.

Difficulty: 1/3 out of 5 (meaning extremely easy to do, but requires a simple slight in the first routine. I have not attempted the harder routine.

Review: I love it. It is one of my favorite impromptu walk around pieces. Cannot be done twice for the same spectator, however, once the trick is complete you are already setup to do it again for the next spectator. The DVD comes with two routines one easy, one hard. I have only used the easy routine and had extremely good results. The only few times a spectator caught on, was if my patter was weak. I fixed that with a "wormholes in space" explanation and it was funny and kept the spectator guessing.



Overall: Well worth the $20.00 for such an impressive trick that can be done over and over with little setup and almost no clean up. The clean up occurs during the initial shock of the washer having two holes and takes less than a second. The harder routine looks like it requires much more practice and is typical sankey slight of hand that will take me a while to pull off. However, in the meantime, the simple routine took a full 10 minutes to successfully pull off in front of numerous spectators. The trick is a little angle sensitive, but as long as spectators are not below your arms (children) or behind you, you are golden.

This is a great trick - it easily fooled me the first time that I saw it

Ideal for any level of skill, particularly for a beginner and / or intermediate.

I carry this is my wallet all of the time and use it whenever I get the opportunity.
I have changed the handling sleightly, using a palm-to-palm change and a wand (either a pen or an invisible wand) to end clean.

I've actually been looking at this trick and have been thinking about buying it. It seems like it would be one of those tricks that are so simple, it's mind-blowing.

It's also in Sankey Unleashed (along with Back in Time and Broken English). This book is great value. Yes you have to make the coins yourself but it's soooo easy.
Get the book, you'll thank me!

I just wanted to thank Shanester for the tip. I used his advice today during a performance and it killed. It made cleaning soooo much easier. It was so obvious, I can't believe I didn't think of it. Thanks again for pointing that out to me.

This is a sankey classic, has to be said.

I think the trick is actuallly very good value for money. Ok, you only get a set of zinc washers as far as material props go, but the DVD is very good indeed. This is my second Jay Sankey DVD (22 Blows To The Head) being the first, and I cannot praise the guy enough for the amount of detail he puts into his explanation, and also the additional routines and ideas he includes with the effect. Lets face it, he could have spent less than 5 minutes explaining this, but he spends nearly an hour, and at one point, even goes into body positioning...the guy's a legend, and a credit to the art of magic.

The only slight criticism I have is that you never see the 'advanced' 6 points routine performed, you only get the explanation. A performance of this would have been great too. Otherwise, excellent, and as the others have said, simple, clean, does what it says on the tin. Also, a nice little trick that can be performed world wide, without looking suspicious with funny coins (ie, using a half dollar and an old english penny, like any normal person has both those in their wallets at any one time?), and a nice introduction to coin magic, for those who know little about it, or are put off by 'funny coins'. 9/10 from me, thanks to the impressive detail that Mr Sankey goes into.

Thats it, I give up on this computery stuff, there is an original review of this but in a senior moment I have lost it again!

This was in my weekly routine all last year - not sure why it isn't this year...come to think of it (runs to find it and puts it into performance bag) I will use it again this week.

I use the same handling but I drilled holes in a set of poker chips to then pair it with a poker patter.....fits todays poker rage and it makes it seem relavant.

I always have this in my pockets, ready to go. Great effect it blows their mind everytime. I allways hand them the solid disc once they open their hand to reveal the two holes, that gives me a moment of mis direction for you know what. Really simple but amazing reactions.

I like the sound of this trick. But then I watched the video dem and was slightly concerned with how easily I figured it out - it seems really obvious. So I showed the video to my wife and she figured it all out pretty much instantly. So I'm worried that the spectator will not be too impressed with this one; can anyone who performs this put my mind to rest? What sort of reactions are you getting? I was considering getting it but now I'm not too sure.
