Roger is getting terribly old but refuses to believe it. I think his 60th birthday is coming up soon.

Isn't it bad enough having to "entertain" the frightful creatures without having to talk about doing it as well?

"Cash in hand, close door behind me, forget about it" was always my motto. I also have a motto for kids' magic but it's not repeatable here.

Here is a bit of nonsense I learned from watching the late George Wallman. I think it is especially useful when dealing with the birthday child.
Have the child help you in some trick or other. As they are about to go back into their seat in the audience say, “Oh, wait a minute! It’s your birthday isn’t it?”
The kid says, “Yes.”
You now say, “I had better give you something for your birthday (or for coming up to help me). Here you are.”
You give them some bit of Hong Kong toy c*** (not the best) and dismiss them. Just as they are about to sit down you say, “Wait a minute! You didn’t bow to the audience did you (or perhaps curtsey in the case of a girl)?”
“Come back and bow to the audience.”
The kid does so, and you say, “I’m going to give you something for bowing. Here you are.”
Give them something else and dismiss them once again, but of course when they are about to sit down in the audience you say, “Oh wait a minute! It’s your birthday, isn’t it (or use some other excuse)? I’d better give you another present.”
So he comes back and you give him something else.
However when he leaves, you call him back again and tell him he didn’t bow properly.
And you keep this up ad infinitum. He keeps going back into the audience and you keep calling him back to the front again. It gets to be a funny running gag. Back and forth he goes and you keep telling him he forgot to bow and you keep giving him a present for doing it right. In the end he gets about 5 different things. Mostly cheap toys or magic tricks.
You can keep the going and coming up as much as you think sufficient.
There. You will find this nonsense great fun.

I know that I alone have posted several questions in other sections of TM regarding childrens magic, weather it was trying to work out a routine or about a trick that is geared toward children.

Also, I dont think we would necessarily have to sub categorize this section. For those of us that are really interested in this section, it would be up to us to properly title our posts and look through the forum to find what we are looking for.

Just my thoughts.

Just to reinforce views expressed here and elsewhere, at TM we welcome all magicians of all skill levels whether they be professionals or ham fisted amateurs like me. There's certainly a great interest in Mentalism here but that's probably because Mentalism is still the big thing in UK magic. The separate Mentalist section was created simply to allow the free discussion and development of effects and routines out of the public eye, very much as the Magicians' Only section caters for similarly private matters on more general magic. If we had a Children's section it would be another room in the public area and there's no reason why matters specifically concerning Children's magic can't be posted and discussed in the existing areas. Perhaps it would help if the thread title made it clear, for example: Children's Magic - Favourite Routines' and then we'd all be able to pick up on the topic immediately. As was said somewhere else, we have a lot of respect for those who specialise in Children's Magic and we'd like to see more discussion on the subject if possible. At the moment, we feel the existing TM set-up caters for this as much as is required but such opinions can, and do, change!

It would have been nice to see a Kid's Show section, but, it isn't needed, there is Magic Bunny for that kind of stuff.

It has been a while since I visited this forum, but Mark Lewis suggested I take a peek here. I notice the last time I posted, I was hoping for an area for children's entertainers. Has any progress been made on this? JR

Roger. I did not suggest you look here. I merely pointed out elsewhere that you were telling porkies when you recently stated that you had never heard of this place when the evidence that you once posted here is there for all to see. Furthermore, I suggest you take down that fake site that you and especially Munton put up. I suggest you keep MUM if you want to keep MUM. Paul and I have influence in that quarter. And Steve Brooks ain't gonna be too happy either with Munton when he sees the fake posts in his name. And he knows about it because I told him about it days ago. I have asked for Munton to be banned from the Magic Cafe because of it.

I can assure you all that this is nothing to do with me. The posts purporting to come from me are fake ones invented by James Munton trying to copy my writing style. I want it taken down immediately since it will come on internet searches and I don't want people thinking it is me.

I suggest Roger sees to this immediately. Oh and don't try to plead innocence. Paul will back me up in this matter. Take that site down. You have crossed the line. And no. I don't want the moderators here to lock this particular thread. And I don't want Roger to be banned from here. I would, however, like to see the views of other members concerning this.

I'm really not sure what's going on here but if someone's pretending to be you on the net than that's bang out of line. Even so, I'd really appreciate it if you could keep any personal issues in private. I'll leave the thread open for now but I've got my finger hovering over the lock button so any silliness and 'Kerlick!'

Mark, I did ask nicely but I'll say it again, please can you and your friends take your playground squabbles somewhere else and not vent them on the public forum? Rob locked the original post about this for a reason, there's no need to carry it on somewhere else.
