I think we need more than one skin.

But seriously, The subSilver one is geting old and dull. It should be kept as a default skin, sure, but users should be able to choose between a multitude of skins, and I don't think installing them would be very hard, since I've administered a forum before. Plus, for example, I like more a black skin with white text since it is less bothering to the eye.
Therefore I would like TM to add a couple of covers for the good old website, because some of us would like to be able to choose. :D

Do I come in to your house and tell you to paint the walls?

No way on the face of this earth. That's way too hard to read for large lumps of text.

There's nothing wrong with this forum... so we're not going to change it.

I think you all misunderstood what I want to say. I did not say "change the skin" since I clearly stated

I said that there should be more skins to choose from. That means that while you, everyone on the TalkMagic forum and all guests from all over the internet would see the forum in the subSilver skin, I, as a registered user, could click on that little box on my profile settings and see the forum in a skin that is less demanding for the eyes (at least for me it is, that's why it's an individual option)
So I see absolutely no point in refusing in taking 5 minutes and installing 20 or so skins just for the sake of it

Before this gets too far down the road, the set up for TM isn't as you assume and it simply isn't a practical possibility to change the appearance or add skins. TM is primarily a Discussion Board and the appearance is purely one which serves that prime purpose.

So there's no one who has access to the root folder of the website?
In that case then I guess I'll take back the suggestion
Although it would still have been a good idea in my opinion

There is another forum which shall remain nameless which has a flashy looking skin and is all dark and moody but I can't be bothered with it as it slows the site down.
TM is fine as it is.

Nobody, even the current mod team, has access.

Secondly, just because a feature exists doesn't mean it *should* be utilised.

Thirdly... the sponsored adverts, people's avatars and even some signatures have been crafted to work with this colour scheme.

I think you're just in a 'modifications' phase... like much of today's youth. A natural way of accepting life, i.e. because you can't change certain things about yourself, you change the things around you to feel in control. Freudian, probably :D

Anyhow... just because Vauxhall supplied their Nova car in black doesn't mean that you CAN'T put a body kit on, paint it pearlescent green, and put neons underneath. That's quite acceptible.

But, TM is more like a Maserati... we respect the paintwork and configuration it was given at birth.

Totally agree with siege here.

Also, from experience modding phpbb can be a right pain in the aristotle. Spend ages picking at the files getting it looking and running as you want it, then they release an update 15 minutes after you upload the lot that kills half the content that's been altered!

Even just altering the stylesheets can mess it up and make the whole thing look horrendous.

The mods don't seem to be prepared to be open with us. I have found that they have had a different skin for moderating in. A very thick one indeed to put up with our comments!

The pale skin on TM is perfect. Why would you want to have more notice taken of the skin anyway? I am far more interested in what is WRITTEN in Talk Magic.

out_slide, if you want a second skin, I think Durex advertise some of their products that way.

Firstly, by old and dull I meant that this is the basic skin that is used in 99.9% of forums, an even though my number of posts isn't to be boasted about yet, that does not mean I have not been lurking the forums before without posting. I generally like to read and understand what is going on in a forum and what should be posted, before posting myself stuff that has been discussed before, or break other nonwritten rules of a forum. I just argued that intense white light bothers me when I am reading, (which cannot really be discussed, since it is a matter of personal opinion), and did not advertise some flashy site-slowing skin. An inverted version of this one would do just as well, as long as it improves readability for certain users.

Secondly, I don't understand what the whole fuss is about. Keep in mind that I made a SUGGESTION, I didn't come barging in, threatening the admins to add a new skin or I would personally hunt them down. After seeing that it is a technical impossibility to actually add a new skin, I immediately withdrew my suggestion.

So while displaying, in my opinion, no lack of manners or making some sort of a social faux pas, I received quite the opposite. It's things like these that lead me to believe that TalkMagic is not such a friendly place as it says it is.
