I Dare You

I had this idea...sometime around three in the morning when I couldn't get comfortable in bed trying to fall asleep...How do I make a borrowed object (i.e a ring) appear to fall in slow motion in a closeup setting, with no visible means of support and can be handed out immediately?...then i thought, what about all my random-three in the morning-epiphanies? Surely I cannot be the only one with thoughts like this.
So I propose a section devoted to these ideas. I guess it would be up to the moderators as to whether this would be in the invitation only section, But those random "I'd like to do this" thoughts that have been floating in your heads, can finally have a place to rest, and may even come to fruition with the input of other magicians. What do you guys think??

Don't be mean, lenoir. I'm not in the restricted area and I see many "how would I..?" posts

If you have any ideas you'd like to see come to fruition, there's nothing stopping you from asking the question in Support and Tips, Nemic.

Edit: Dirk Losander has a trick that I believe is for sale where a ball can fall slowly from one hand to the other, maybe that's something you can look into

wow, a senior member, not in the restricted area ??
It looks like it takes a lot of work to get there. Lile we say in belgium 'Moeilijk gaat ook'. Litterlie means 'Difficult is also possible'

Muchos apologia, I didn't think I was being rude, just stating that there have been several posts of that nature in the "secret" area.

I'm pretty sure you can do a ring effect like this with I.T. You'll need to practice with it for awhile though.

yeah I got a few ideas in regards to the idea. I propose the idea again, as far as the forum, possibly for those of us that are not in the secret sessions area. Obviously there would have to be rules regarding the how, i.e. not revealing modus operandi of effects but just talking theory...I don't know. I DO know it's aggravating to know how effects are done but not being able to discuss it but understanding there are lurkers that spam our forums...sigh-Nemic

What's wrong with using Support & Tips? You don't need to be in the Magicians Only Area to get help in how to do something :) Just don't expect the answer handed on the plate, and expect to be given a book or trick name to be researched (as to not expose)

One solution to the original question is based on basic science rather than magic, so I think I can discuss it. Some coins are magnetic. Often the coppers are. Get a magnetic coin and magnetize it. Then drop it down a copper tube. A phenomen called eddy current damping will occur. Basically the falling magnet will set up a counter magnetic field which will push against the fall, slowing it down considerably. It looks very cool; the coin will slowly float down through the tube.
A version of this is commercially available, called Newton's Nightmare.
