Children’s Entertainers Forum...

Hi Guys – I joined this forum almost three years ago when I first quit my “normal” job as a loss adjuster and took the leap into this wacky world of entertainment. Unfortunately, I haven’t been a regular as my experience with some of the “old school” magicians I’ve come across (not on this forum) have been a bit disappointing. However, I just typed “children’s entertainer forum” into Google and it came up with a couple of threads that suggest a number of you guys specialise in my field :o)

I find my job is the most rewarding and fun thing I have ever done, but when I’m not working I find self employment to be quite a lonely experience... I miss the office banter and grown up conversation. Everybody loves Milo, but no one knows Paul, there’s no one to vent to or bounce ideas off and there’s only so much time you can spend twisting balloons and vanishing sponge balls in your lounge!

I know the request has been made in the past, but please could we have a children’s entertainer forum? There are no other CE forums on the interweb and I know a simple Google search would bring new members to this forum as well as pleasing the existing members. I would be happy to volunteer myself as a forum moderator, respond to posts, promote it to other entertainers and whatever else is needed to justify its creation.

Regrettably each time this suggestion has been made there has been insufficient suppoort for it. For a separate room to be created we need to be sure that it will be used and supported, there are at least 7 examples in the past 8 years where new rooms were created by 'popular demand' and every one has fallen into disuse almost immediately. Our general policy is to minimise the number of rooms and thus avoid the difficulties of navigating to and from them.

In addition, there's no reason why effects and routines suitable for children's shows can't be aired and discussed in the existing rooms. If we created a new room there would be justifiable requests for separate rooms for Card Magic, for Coin Magic and probably every other variation. If it helps when posting about Childrens Magic effects just put 'Childrens Magic' as part of the title and the search function will find them easily enough.

I know I've requested this before, but please can we have a forum for people to request forums?

(I'm sure that eventually that joke will grow old. But I'll still tell it even then)

I'd agree - a children's entertainment forum would be ideal - as I am now focussing on the art of kids magic and anything to enhance that would be brilliant!!

I would refer the honourable Magic Duncan to our definitive comment on the topic, as above (and also below!):

I think that the problem with specialised rooms is that people will only visit the rooms that they're interested in so posts in those rooms may well miss out on some very good advise from magicians who may not strictly be children's entertainers. Keep everything together and you're more likely to have more people reading and contributing to the threads.

I agree with Lady of Mystery - There is cross relevance between the different genres of magic, and I like to at least read about the other styles and and help out where I can. Yes, I do children's magic (as well as other things), but I'm happy to ask and answer questions in the main forums.

Children's entertainment is very popular but the problem is that if you do have a section for that then you have to have a section for card magic which is even more popular still. Then someone else will want another section then the whole thing gets out of hand and we end up like the magic cafe which has far too many sections.

If you're on Facebook there's a very active Children's Entertainers network there: http://www.facebook.com/groups/childrensents/
