they have it on facebook where you like a comment or post that someone has made

Facebook uses a different type of software to our board, MM; Mandrake was merely commenting that he wasn't aware of anything which the TalkMagic boards could use, to provide a similar feature.

This is a PHPBB forum. There are Modifications to add the functionality on the PHPBB website (I think someone mentioned that further up).

Personally, I thoroughly dislike forums cluttered with unnecessary functionality. I like them clean and easy to read. I don't really care about what the collective think about a post, I'll make my own mind up.

I know it's nice to give Kudos to a poster so they get a little satisfaction for their efforts or attitude but that defeats the purpose of a forum because you could just reply and give them more of your time typing a response to show appreciation and in the process tell them which part you liked, making it far more constructive.

Yup, wot he sed :D !

Here’s a thought, instead of looking for a button or other sterile, anonymous feature, perhaps we could actually take time to post a few sentences to say, 'Thank you, I like that' or whatever - the person who posted the original message would probably prefer to know that real people like (or dislike) their ideas than see a batch of statistics. Let’s stick with treating each other as humans.

I think this is the better option. I'm constantly amazed by the almost zombie-like mentality on Facebook where people run through their news feed and just 'Like' everything that their friends have posted. Seems to be particularly prevalent on my wife's friend list and she makes a joke of how she can guarantee that certain people will automatically 'Like' anything posted.

Overall whether you like someone's posts (on here) in general will form your opinion of them and your appreciation, or lack of, for that person will be reflected in your replies. Without the meaningless point scoring. :)

On past forums I belonged to, one word/short sentences were not allowed, and frowned upon. This just caused people to post on every topic just saying they liked it.
I agree one, maybe two people could say they liked the idea, but without proper content it will be hard to follow the thread and sift through all the likes.
I go by the rule of, if one person has said they liked it, then I won't post (unless I had something to give). If I truely liked it, I will send a pm to the thread owner.

I break this in the Visual Curiosities forum as I feel the more encouragement in that area the best.

I still like the idea of a like button. :) But of course will agree to anything chosen by those in charge.

Considering the antics in recent weeks, some sections of TM would be one mass of raised middle digits!
