Craig I just wanted to say thankyou for 'Becoming a mentalist', it has become my Mentalist curriculum and i am finding it extremely useful. I am currently armed with 13 Steps, Acidus Novus, and, how to develop a super power memory by Harry Lorayne.

So... Thank you!

Kind Regards

Justin.

Heres a tip for those very new. I did this when I was 8.

Think of any number. Double it.

Add 10. Now divide your answer by 2.

Subtract your original number. The answer......let me think.....FIVE!

1. Practice
2. Be Impromptu with conviction
3. Be confident in yourself
4. Did I say practice

Thanks Craig for all the time and effort to put all this together for us. It's good to see someone pointing us towards reference sources other than the standard Corinda/Anneman for a change.

I am so new to magic that I am not really sure what mentalism is or whether I want to learn mentalism.

Is there more to mentalism than palms, tarot and faking being a medium?

Sorry for being so ignorant but I have to learn somewhere.

Cheers

Galgael

There is so much more to mentalism, if you look at some of the books that Craig desribes you will get a better picture. there is eyeless vision, psychometry, telekinesis etc etc you can perform many 'experiments'.

If you are "new" to magic I'd suggest you not dive into what I've outlined here too much... rather, invest into both the Mark Wilson Course in Magic as well as the Tarbell Course... these two resources will give you an excellent sense of overview on all facets of magic and allow you to get a feel of things before you narrow your focus to one area or another as far as your personal specialty is concerned.

This article was one of what was supposed to be a series of supporting "anchors" that others were supposed to contribute as a Sticky Post to help people learn about and explore the various aspects of magic... sadly, I don't believe any of the others ever got penned.

:!: I should probably do one on Major Stage Illusions as I think of it... that is my second area or primary study. I've just become rather burnt out of late though... who knows

Thank you Craig, this is indeed a good reading not only for those who wishes to start thier journey in mentalism but also for those who have been practicing the art for some time now. I gained alot of new insights especially in the part of a mentalism being a charlatan or a magician.
