The Illusionist

Looking around on IMDB.com I came a cross a movie called The Illusionist - which is supposed to come out this year.

It's a period piece set in the Victorian era in Vienna. What sounds really interesting is it centers on an illusionist (played by Edward Norton). It also has Paul Giamatti in it. These three bits of info alone make it sound promising.

Has anyone heard anything else regarding this movie?

They haven't found a distributer for the film yet, but it was supposedly a hot property at Sundance Film Festival, so it shouln't take to long for it to be in the theaters.

Also they are working on a movie called The Prestige with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as rival magicians during the turn of the century.

Seems that magic may be back in the main stream again.

I'll see if I can find the clips for The Illusionist that they have released. When I do I will post them here

I also did a check on IMDB and found a movie called "The Great Buck Howard." The movie is about a magician/illusionist who is in decline and his assistant seek to invigorate his career. The movie stars Colin Firth, Tom Hanks, and Kevin Kline.

If you check other movie sites, you'll find additional information that Tom Hank's son plays the assistant and Tom plays his disapproving father. Overall sounds promising.

I'm currently coordinating with local theaters to get them to pay magicians from our magic club (IBM) to come out and perform for crowds as they wait to get in the movie. So far, I've been getting good vibes from both the theaters, magic club, and the local magic shop. Bottom line it will get good publicity for our club and the magic shop.

That sounds really cool. I've watched a few history channel specials on Jasper Maskelyne. The things he did during the war were genius.

This seems like a really nice trend on the rise. Lots of movies dealing with magic!

Mmm, this one has been in production for a very long time. Last I heard Tom Cruise was the lead, but that was about 4 years ago. Heres hoping though.
