Lugosimagic and Dan Army - A warning...

Recently a character called Dan Army got in touch with me and asked to use parts of my latest effect (Connected) in his effect which was going to be identical. I said no. After that he went in a huff and was upset that he couldn't re-release my new effect... The logic is odd but he is only 15 and a bit of a strange character anyway. He had nothing to release and was annoyed. You know what these guys are like now... The role models are creators and they all want to be popular. Dan Army doesn't care about magic and uses the forums etc as a popularity contest. Anyway, he didn't have a card to wallet effect and was upset with me.

2 days later he releases a card to wallet effect. His website is suddenly the same as mine, with my quotes and even info about MY magic... odd. Not just about the effects but about ME. Descriptions of my magic were now descriptions of HIS magic and I worked hard to get these from places like Channel 4 and the Royal Bank of Scotland etc. I got a copy of his card to wallet and not only did he use all of my handling but it was a copy/paste job from my product! Can you believe how unintelligent he was? Anyway, he didn't have a leg to stand on and he was in trouble. Also, he could not provide proof of purchase for buying my effect in the first place and I managed to track down who had given him it.

I told Dan what had to be done before legal action was taken and he did it all. Although his public apologies were lame at best, he did do them. He's now banned from many forums and his site is down for good. Shouldn't be a problem but keep your eye open for him as he is a professional liar and thief.

The main reason I write this is to warn you all of Lugosimagic, the company that Dan Army co-owns. I know most of you wouldn't go near a rubbish company made by 12 year olds with webcam products but do stay away. Obviously I imagined Dan would now be sacked from the company but I got a shock. The real "boss" of the company is stating that he understands why Dan did what he needed to do. Steal material, steal products, steal copyright text and also graphics and lie to the whole magic community. Basically Lugosimagic are promoting criminals and they "understand" why Dan did what he did and they decided to ban me for some reason which was extremely odd.

Anyway, keep your eyes open. Hopefully you are all mature enough to be wary of people anyway but if you do see their name, don't trust them. They are run by kids who are thieves and liars and they are now promoting that as fact which I am sure will be their downfall. I've recovered all losses and things are fine now so don't worry about me. Just be careful if you see the names, just looking out for you!

Take it easy guys,

P.H.

p.s. If you were unlucky enough to get a bootleg version of my effect, get in touch and I will get you sorted out.

That's a disgraceful situation but well done for dealing with it so professionally. 'Understanding' criminal actions is a symptom of modern society where miscreants aren't criminals, just misguided, misunderstood or some such tosh. Time and time again we've had to deal with visitors posting messages which state that copying (i.e. stealing) is going on all the time so we just have to get used to it - like hell we do, it's theft. Any sign of that firm or those names on TM will ring alarm bells and we'll let you know what we hear.

Ooooh. I can imagine that...

Seriously. How can anybody try to justify a criminal action!? And they call themselves a serious company? Glad you got that sorted out.

Okay, probably an old topic, but I was directed here from another forum.

That is really awful. What ended up happening with it? Was the kid ever fired? Is he stealing anything else? Whats the deal?

It's all good as far as I am concerned... I've not seen him stealing from me since although my friend Zenneth King of Keighley had an effect stolen and used without permission more recently.

Welcome to the wonderful world of magic...

In the words of the great and awesome Craig Browning:

"STEAL AWAY"

Mike.

Dan Army has at least one book and two DVDs out, but I have no idea if any of the methods have been unfairly appropriated. Some of the plots sound very like other marketed effects, but then that would cover about 80-90% of most dealers' stockrooms!
