Playing cards with pictures instead of pips/numbers

Hello magical ones!

I want to put together a mentalism type effect using my card to wallet, and I'm thinking it would work well with playing cards showing pictures of random things rather than playing cards.

So, I guess they'd be like the cards kids might use to play SNAP!.

One card might show a tree, another may show a cat, another may show a house, and so on.

I could buy SNAP! cards from a toy shop but the quality might be a bit ropey. I need to at least be able to spread them (not fan) and palm a card off.

I seem to recall seeing a review for some USPCC cards, possibly on Bike stock (though they don't need to be). I've tried to find it with the 'search' but I don't know what they were called.

Can anyone help?

Thanks for that. Can't find any at that link though. I've been looking around that site (have bought from them many times) but it's a big site!

I did email them but they're away for a while...

They do have this deck:

http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/acatalog/x ... _Size.html
[[[scroll down to where it says "Flash Cards Memorised Deck by Kerry Summers".]]]

A picture on each card. I get the impression they may have playing card symbols on too though. It's hard to tell from the description and there's no clear illustrations.

I don't want the spectator to think of this as a "card trick", so if there's suits and numbers, even if disguised as other things, it might feel like a card trick.

Hmm... they may work though. Does anyone have this deck?

Otherwise... can anyone suggest an alternative?

Just found lots of details here for the Kerry Summers deck:

They look pretty good I think. I like the idea of doing mentalism that has a really fun visual aspect to it.

I'm still interested in alternatives though, if anyone knows of any!

CArlight1958, I'll take a look at that deck, thanks for that!

Thanks for those links... can't seem to get the site to work properly though. I'll try again in a bit. What's the name of the product? Maybe I can google it...

I doubt strongly that what you describe could ever be taken seriously by a spectator as Mentalism...mental magic at best.

You could quite easily have them do a drawing and produce something very similar out of your wallet as an act of premonition or, as an act of mind reading have them draw something and you then proceed to draw it too.

Much stronger than what are essentially lots of little drawings being fanned out and one being picked like a card trick and then the same one appearing in your wallet.

Yeah, you may well be right, Lenoir.

I do already have a mentalism routine using the card to wallet, blank cards and a swami. Not quite as you describe but that sort of thing...

But I wanted something really, really quick and playful and highly visual for the kind of environment where that sort of thing works best. I can always do something more convincing afterwards.

Having said that, I think _possibly_ it will come across as convincing mentalism if I present it right. If the spec is convinced that the card in my wallet was there all along and that they chose the card I wanted them to choose... Well, I'll play with it and see how it goes. You may well be right but it's worth playing around with.

"My sister works in a primary school and she leant me these alphabet flash cards....
I'm going to show you each card in turn and ask you to picture yourself back as a child again...
One of the picture cards should appeal to you more than the others...
I'd like you to name the card that you feel would have appealed to the child in you..."

The spec goes into a childlike trance, sucks her thumb, demands lollipops etc, then confirms that she has chosen a card.

"I have a card in my wallet, representing the card that I believe you are most likely to choose. Take your card from the deck so you know I don't cheat, and hold on to it."

Spec takes the card from the deck. I produce the matching card from my wallet.

I think that could work as mentalism. If I was just fanning the deck, telling them to point to a card or pick a card, I guess then it really would come across as a throw-away (but pretty good) magic trick.

What do you think?

It may not be quite what you're after, but you could consider Symbology by Sean Taylor - 13 different symbols in four colours, with other helpful features...

That would work. Would have a very different feel to it of course. Thanks for the tip-off, Barry.

I've ordered the picture cards, will see how they work out.

The Flash Cards are probably what you want.

The Mental Pictoria deck (also available from Cards4Magic) has simple line drawings of various objects. Probably better for a drawing duplication effect, than what you have in mind.

Derren Brown did something called 'Guess Whom'...I think it was in his stage show 'Enigma'. Look at that if you want to see how covert (and good a psychological / mentalist presentation) a card trick can get :D

I saw what you were looking for in Hamley's. The card stock is similar to the Bicycle ones, and its fairly nice.
